BLUFF CITY — Happy Valley picked up a significant Three Rivers Conference baseball win Monday. The Warriors changed the leaderboard when they upset Sullivan East on the Patriots’ home field. The 3-2 win kept East (15-8, 8-3) from pulling into a first-place tie with Unicoi County (16-9, 9-2). Nolan Easlic went the distance for the Warriors, allowing five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Landon Morefield and Eli Fleenor each had an RBI for Happy Valley (9-10, 3-8), which took advantage of three East errors. Virginia High 5, John Battle 1 BRISTOL, Va. — The Bearcats picked up a good nondistrict win against city rival John Battle. A pair of doubles and an RBI from Jared Moulse helped seal the deal for Virginia High, which got a 3-for-4 effort from Zach Griffith. The Trojans scored on a passed ball in the first inning. SOFTBALL Gate City 3, Central 2, 8 innings WISE — The Lady Blue Devils pushed across a run in the top of the eighth to secure the Mountain 7 District victory. Kinslee Hammonds opened the eighth by reaching base on a Central error. Hammonds moved to second on the next out and scored the deciding run on Cammie Lovelace’s single to center field. Kate Pendleton and Alyssa Clark each went 2-for-4 and had an RBI for Gate City (4-5, 2-1). Lexie Lane notched the complete-game win, striking out nine. Hannah Carter was 2-for-3 and plated a run for Central (4-5, 1-4). David Crockett 7, Dobyns-Bennett 0 JONESBOROUGH — Kara Weems locked it down with a 13-strikeout shutout to lead the Lady Pioneers, who stayed in first place in the Big 7 Conference. Weems allowed five hits and walked three against the Lady Indians (14-12, 2-8). Sydney Fox had two hits and three RBIs for David Crockett (21-9, 8-1). Lenzie Jenkins, Riley Hope and Maddie McKee each added two hits. Daniel Boone 8, Volunteer 0 GRAY — Makenna Dance went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and Nickolette Ferguson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the Big 7 win for the Lady Trailblazers (24-12, 8-1). Megan Ackerman added two hits, including a two-run homer, and Jaycie Jenkins totaled two hits for Boone. Ackerman (9-5) threw the shutout, giving up two hits. Sullivan East 9, Tennessee High 3 BLUFF CITY — Amber Turner had two hits and four RBIs in the Lady Patriots’ rivalry win over the Lady Vikings on Senior Night. Samantha Smith went 3-for-3 with two doubles, and Chelsea Sams, Katelyne Loudy and Cayden Bawgus totaled two hits apiece for Sullivan East. Kylee Wolfe tossed the complete-game three-hitter in which she allowed just one earned run. Anna Craddock totaled two RBIs and Grayson Phipps had two hits for Tennessee High. Science Hill 5, Elizabethton 4 JOHNSON CITY — Gia Hickman ripped a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Lady Hilltoppers the walk-off win. Kasey Bennett’s RBI double pulled Science Hill to within 4-3 before Hickman’s big hit. Elizabethton (16-10) had gone up 4-2 on Kaylin Shell’s two-run double in the top of the seventh. Hickman and Allison Taylor each had two hits for the Lady Hilltoppers (23-9). Blake West got the win in relief.
