Saw some very good games at a very nice Winthrop complex. Weather was nice, not to hot and with a nice breeze.

Team 22 (retired_coach,cdmx5, and dr. junk's dd's teams) beat up on team 23 (thebearmay) on Terry Field..............

dr.junk & cdmx5 dd's are very good AND fast players! DD really liked meeting and playing with them!

Was a great weekend for softball down at Winthrop. Kirt and gang put on a great showcase and the Winthrop girls did an excellent job of helping out. There was some very good games down there and lots of coaches to talk to. My dd had a great time and the team went undefeated (only one to do so) Lots of very good players and coaches. I want to thank John Behling and his wonderfull daughter Jenny for the coaching and time they put in! I got to meet a lot of new people and enjoyed their company,Saw a lot of young talent too.Just remember not all pitchers are required to throw over the 60 mph mark to do well. DD never threw a fastball during any of the games.had the catcher wondering - till she caught the curve ball alot.(no need for it)There was a 2011 NC girl throwing in the mid 60's with a lot of raw talent. Over all was a very fun weekend !

Coach_R- Congrats to your dd for ALL of the MVP's and ALL QDSS first team.

2011 NC pitcher pitched for dd's team, and YES...The kid has talent!!!

I was most impressed with the speed of the Jacksonville teams players.........Those girls could flat out FLY!!!

Also, the Leah O'Brien-Amico outfield and slapping sessions were great!! She actually talked and instructed all 40+ girls. DD came out of there with a ton of confidence and a new idol (After Caitlyn Lowe). She also got her picture taken with Leah's 3 Olympic Gold Medals and Leah........Very nice ambassador of softball!!

Awesome weekend of softball and a wonderful job by Kirt and his staff. Coaches everywhere, you couldn't walk around the park without running in to them. Alot of girls from Ohio did well does anyone know any girls that received MVP's?

Full list should be up at kfastpitch.com shortly, but my DD was saying that Byers had received it for every game she was in up until the last one.

This from JoeA over at JJ:
Ohio girls who I know of who got at least one Game MVP (one pitcher and one player per game received one) included the following (I'm sure there were others, but I don't know who all was from Ohio):

Pitchers:
Ashley Byers (3) (also got QDSS First Team)
Alyssa Birkhimer (3)
Amanda Meyer (2)
Samantha Michaelis (2)
Audrey Plant (2)
Tricia Vettura (2)
Alycia Wodzak (1)

Position Players:
Chelsea Archer (2)
Delaney Childers (1)
Paige Stewart (1)
Megan Lockhart (1) (also First Team QDSS)
Kristen Shaffer (1)
Hope Fletcher (1)
Kelly Trace (1)

Keep in mind it was much easier for a pitcher to get a Game MVP award than a position player. There were four pitchers in each game and 18 position players. For First Team QDSS, three pitchers out of 48 received the award and 11 position players out of 216.

Yeah that speed caused some problems with an infield that hadn't worked together long enough to get comfortable. My favorite play is still the diving catch in LF though ;) (the Photo Series is under the Terry Field 1:00pm #'s 1034-1036....Click Here)

Some great hitting, pitching, fielding all weekend long. Large turnout of coaches, great guest speaker Friday Night and smiles on the young ladies all weekend!

If it's exposure you want, you need to do this!

Great Job by Kirt and his crew for a successful weekend for all to enjoy.

TheBearMay,

I heard about that diving catch. I also heard that she had a really nice hit. I wish I could have seen her play some.

TheBearMay-Tell Roo that was one heck of a catch!!!! That was a BIG catch since there was runners on 2nd & 3rd. I'm just glad she didn't steal a hit from my kid lol!

Team 22 did have the speed! I thought dd at 2.8 home to first was fast............She was 4th or 5th fastest on the team...........

Our DD said that the player from Florida said she was 2.7ish and all of the kids were amazed because a couple of them had 2.7's for their speed (mine included). She was extremely fast and the others were fast. I bet she was at least 2.6.

Retired coach & dr.junk, our DD enjoyed meeting the other Ohio Players. I know it's early yet, but have you heard any feedback? My guess is that the most we will hear will be letters for clinics because she is only a sophomore.

Erica Snoddy, pitcher from Road Runner Elite also received 2 MVP's. (Team # 21)

DD had a lot of fun, enjoyed meeting a lot of new people, and played 4 great softball games. This was our first experience at the QDSS and felt it was even better than the QDSN we attended in January.

Thanks to Kirt and crew for a wonderful weekend! Keep up the good work!
