Daughter enjoyed her expierence there this past weekend. Shame they couldnt hit and play more but that comes with having 200 plus young ladies there and squeezing at a indoor complex. Weather couldnt of been better to make the 90 minute trip there both days.
I can see how watching the cages from afar would be very tough. We were lucky and ours was in cage 1 at the front end.

Was it just me or was the radar guns maybe off a tad? Didnt see to many at all get it above 53 there from the gun readings. Did see a couple hit around 56 to 57 but that was about it.

Did hear nothing but solid reviews about the Kent State University camp from others before the QDNS.

Our pitcher was throwing 57 and we played against a team whose pitcher was throwing 61 - 62. Think she was from Outlaws.

Jordan Hux and Cori Long from the Ohio Swarm both received MVPs from the cages. Cori went not being accepted as a pitcher and ended up being asked to fill in and made the most of it. Very good experience. Alot of college coaches but the girls have to do the leg work to get them there to watch.

No, they were right. We saw three girls on 3 & 4pm games get over 60 and highest we saw was 63 by the girl mentioned above from Outlaws. Her and girl from Indy Extreme were over 60 almost every pitch. There were lots of pitchers throwing in the low-mid 50s but looked like those were drop ball pitchers living on them. There other pitchers would go up to 54-56 usually. so that might explain it.

I watch games on both fields and I think the guns were messed up. At times they read 67mph and the next pitch did register at all, ect.

I stand somewhat corrected then. I didnt see those times and I was catching alot before, during and after daughters games. When you have time to kill I just walked around meeting old friends and watching the pitchers/times.
I just didnt see those faster times. Reason I ask about the guns was a few that was throwing a tad harder than what the times read.
I noticed the guns didnt read under 50 and high heat (around or above letters).

That's because they were set up on tripods behind the backstop/net thingy. What you saw was the radar sometimes picking up the bat (the 67) or sometimes being blocked by the ump (no reading).

If a human was aiming the gun you would get consistent readings of the pitches because they could aim at the pitch.

I guess I missed the ones over 57. One of the top prospects out of Ohio hit 57 and her dad told us she throws 63 on his gun. I will second the KSU camp, have been to it when my dd was younger. Many college coaches are present during the KSU camp. She was only in the 8'th grade , but many invited us to camps and talked to her during the camp.
DD's only comment was she thought the pitching was slower than she faced during travel ball. One of the MVP's in the cage never got a hit during our indoor game this year against our pitcher who actually does bring it at 60 plus.

Just maybe the radar guns "AKA Lie Detectors" where actually working. If a pitcher is consistently throwing in the 63 range, she should be pretty much committed somewhere already, or getting serious interest. I was there and I thought the guns looked on for the most part, I didn't see anyone really for the most part smoking the ball by anyone. I saw Erin Gabriel there as a freshman and she was around 64/66 then.

DD and I thought the Kent State clinic was great. DD had all of the colleges she contacted ahead of time show up and give her a look, so the coaches were there. Clinic sessions were well run and she got plenty of reps in each. The only thing that was puzzling about the KSU clinic was the bib numbers - the girls didn't get them until they checked-in so there was no way to send their number to the college coaches they were contacting. I still don't see a list on their site (QDS published their list ahead of time).

DD also loved QDS but, for me, it was a bit of a disappointment - probably because I, like someone earlier in the thread, did the math on the cost per at-bat. The 50 minute time format is obviously a challenge but there could definitely be improvements. If you are going to have a rule that the battery is going to switch every 6 batters, just make the inning 6 batters no matter what - don't stop mid-inning to switch. Then play each at bat as if there are no outs - this would allow runners to attempt the steal (let the runner and the catcher showcase themselves) without potentially costing their team a valuable at-bat. It would also let the fielders make the more interesting play on the lead runner rather than get the runner at first (in the case where there's two outs).

Just my 4583 cents... (per at-bat)

Well, I have read all the post, and sat and thought for a while about what I should type.

First, Like most, I like to watch my DD play!!! However, in my 6 hours on Sunday, I spent a lot of time talking to College Coaches, and they ALL said this is what they want to see, "How does your DD do without you sitting along the fence or behind the backstop?" Well my DD did just that. She played and I watched other games on the field.

My DD was picked up by a team that had someone unable to attend. So she got an extra field game and an extra cage game. I saw her leave my truck at 7:30am Sunday morning, she stopped by our camp area at 9:52am, left at 9:55am after getting a water and a quick snack, played at 11, and noon on the field, cage at 1pm, and came back for a 2 hour break then back in the cage at 4pm.

That was after playing two cage games Saturday night, and one cage game Sunday morning.Total of 7 games on the weekend.

She (Kristin Staley-Buckeye Heat '96-Lee) did get an MVP for going 6 for 6 in Cage on Game 2 Saturday night. she had a blast, and really enjoyed meeting the other girls, and the coaches were awesome!!! (According to her)

So I thought about some of the post about cost per bat...Lets see, if you attended the OSU Winter Camp you would spend $75 for 2.5 hours. Maybe see 3 additional coaches, and lets face it, unless you are a 100% stud from Ohio, you wont be going to OSU.

The amount of college coaches that attended the QDS-North, and the games that were played, the information that was given to us, the letter writing process, the 14 page list of college coaches emails, to me were well worth the $275 bucks. We spent more than that attending other camps that were for that college ONLY... getting to play in front of 100+ college coaches priceless.

Not to mention when seeing consistent pitchers 58-63 mph, then coming home and watching the all star games in Fla, and Jennie Ritter saying that the pitchers in that game of All-Stars that were college bound, were "Popping" the glove at 55mph. Makes you really wonder were we facing college bound pitchers too?

Lastly,
I know that playing indoor fields only having 2 fields to play on is rough, When we went to QDS-South to watch this past Sept, it was much easier playing games on 4 regular fields, more game time, 4 games going on all day at the same time. It is what it is folks, 322 of the top rated softball players from 35 states... We were with the best all weekend.
