I thought Robertk was a troll with the "true dynasty " and "this org is scary" talk but he's for real . He is the current coach for the 15u Madness. Current meaning the season runs til Jan 1st 2011. (and I thought I was addicted to exclamation points )

Is this really what the madness is paying coach's for ? to get on OFC and look foolish ?

The 14u team had a superp year and appear to have the horses to hang with anyone --now don't under schedule ( NOT talking ASA regionals , I mean not playing nearly any top ten type teams in ohio) ) like you did this year , and get out there and find out . MD

And the insults and assumptions continue. . .we are not paid! Robertk does not coach for the 15u Madness and Robertk is not a man! (By the way Robertk, I will miss you!)

IF covering the hotel bills of non-parent coaches is being paid wow, am I way under paid!

sorry for assuming Robertk was a man. RobertK did post all summer reporting scores for the madness 16u team , I though they were a 94 team. And getting hotels pd for would amount to 1000-3000.00 $ for most travel clubs. Is that not enough to be considered "paid"

So if a former or current coach gets on OFC and states " We are a true dynasty '" and our organization is "scary" and you have no problem with that , then so be it. It's OK to disagree. For the record to be factually straight this club played somewhere between 1 and 3 teams of the top 10 ten in ohio this year. They did'nt get a chance to see the the Intensity, Doom 95 , Doom 96 , Laser Silver , Laser Gold , Laser Black , Valley Ext , Ohio Ice , or the Buckeye Heat . thats 9 teams in their age group they never played. So now they are declared a dynasty and scary ? and not get called out on it ? not gonna happen. MD

CGS - I congratulated them - they won Easterns and we did not. Like I said, only encouraging them to keep playing up in competition - they have done well when they have done so.

OK Dan, now you have really ticked me off with your comments about covering motel costs equaling being a paid coach. You want to take a wild guess how much in the red Ted and I are for coaching a team on which we have no daughter? Here's a hint: it's well north of $2,000 even getting our modest motel expenses covered. ($3,000 for motel/hotel costs? Seriously?) And I'm not including anything for the contributed time of Ted or me. We probably average more than 10 hours a week for each of us (on a year-long basis) devoted to the Buckeye Heat. Assuming the conservative 10 hours, that's 1,400 hours a year. He's got a PhD and I've got a JD. But never mind that, let's take $10 an hour. That would equal $14,000 but we are coaching in the red. You call that being a "paid coach"? Sheesh.

Madness should be complimented for paying the motel costs of its coaches. Feisty, for example, brings a wealth of experience both as a college player and as a coach to her team. And you want her to do all that without covering her motel expenses even though she doesn't have a daughter on the team? Get real.

I was trying not to overestimate what the madness might be ringing up in hotel bills knowing they don't travel that much . In their case I prob' overestimated. And in addt' to that I never said they (or you) are paid what you worth. do you really think I don't know how many hrs and much **** goes into doing what you do ? C'mon you know me better than that.

The whole situation deserves to be examined also. The same cash they paid to what seems like a great investment in feisty got paid to some person named robertk to come on here and state they are now are a dynasty and the organization has reached scary good status. thats my problem. I offer a direct apology to you for feeling like you somehow got drug into this rather messy thread. FWIW I have zero problem with paid coaches MD

as far as hotel cost I not including week long nationals. I thought 2-3k was a good estimate. 2 nights at 90 bucks = 180 a weekend x 8 weekends =1500 bucks , throw in a few extra night where thurs is needed = 2k . I never meant that to be equated to paying any coach for all their time spent. And never insinuated that. MD

Gotta agree with atleast some of what Dan is saying. I've read some posts from this team and it does seem like alot of bragging. Yet they lost to Pitts. Power...a "good" team..not an "elite team". They did not play many of the top ten teams nor were they at Stingrays , Lasers , etc. Great job on the tournie wins...seriously, but no need to come on here and brag away.

You name me one team that didn't have a loss to someone it should have beat. We DEFINITELY had such losses last year. Maybe Intensity didn't have such losses and possibly Cincy Doom 95. But after that, I can guarantee you there are bad losses for every team in Ohio. I don't think you can define a team based upon one or two losses.

If you think that Madness has been bragging excessively on OFC, that's an opinion that we can agree to disagree about. What I don't get is extending the diatribe to questions about "paid coaches" and other matters.

Shoot, I posted, in the excitement of the moment that Buckeye Heat 95 won enough games at USA/ASA to place 25th. Did that mean I was excessively bragging?

I agree that I wouldn't use some of the terms that RobertK used, but if you look back at this whole thread, the attack on Madness and the notion that they were playing down started well before RobertK posted.

And as to playing down in tournaments . . . as the person who made the schedule, I take great offense to those comments. We tried to enter Stingrays and Lasers and for whatever reason were denied. We did go to GAPSS and other tournaments in the past that have been strong. Our first year we applied to Stingrays (again denied), but were at Compuware. The notion that we are "playing down" and only trying to collect hardware is ridiculous. Please get a life and quit bashing 14 and 15 year old girls. We went to the QDST because we were invited and for the experience. The competition was good and the girls had a great time. To all of you Madness "bashers": hopefully your teams care about each other and have as much fun as our girls do. That's what really counts.

oK - I don't pay alot of attention to the bragging on OFC. There is a fair amount of it out there. However, CGS, I will say that this is not the first time that I have seen it for this team. To the point that someone in their organization came up and apologized to me at GAPSS for their parents getting carried away. I told them that I did not care and it was no big deal. The initial comment, which I agree with that Dan made is that they should play tougher competition next year. Again, I agree with that. We had the opportunity to play Doom 95, Doom 96 three times, Buckeye Heat 95, Laser Gold, Laser Black (last fall), Classics, Madness and many other good teams. As a first year team, I was happy that we won some of these and lost others but improved as a team having played better teams. I did not think that there were any super-good teams and Easterns but, hey, Madness beat them and we did not do so - hats off to them. Like I said, look forward to seeing them next year at all the top tournies. On the paid coach deal - I won't touch that one with a 10 foot pole! Select ****** and select volleyball fees are way up there due to paid coaches though.

if memory serves me right from the announcement, someone from KY and someone from PA. Kirt said first time teams from 4 different states in final 4... Not sure team names though sorry...

my comment about playing down was meaning playing down in age SPECIFICALLY at QOD south. I will add I never considered that they signed up for 14u in advance and couldn't get out of it and play 16u . Did they ask ? But it's a great stretch for me to think they did'nt know in advance that they are very capable of competing at 16u in a fall tourney. in the words of their own people they are dang special.

as far as arguing about what defines a paid coach I guess we need to define what a paid coach means. I agree "partially paid" or some other term could be used if all a coach gets is hotel paid for but if you get a few grand in my book thats being paid. Obvious to anyone who knows travel ball knows 2-3k would'nt touch what the amount of time coaches put in . this has really went on enough for me.

Pittsburgh Spirit over Carolina Rage
It was a 5 - 5 or 6 - 5 game late, but then I heard Pittsburgh Spirit broke it open in a big inning.


Not positive, but I believe CK Slammers beat Pittsburgh Spirit 4 - 1 to get to Championship. M C Madness Black beat Carolina Rage 8 - 0. I believe it was the only run rule game of the tournament by any team. Most of the games were very close from what I saw. I know there were numerous ITBs that went a few innings.

There is no 16U at Queen of Diamonds South. If you don't play the 14U, then your players have to apply for admission to the Showcase and they are placed on tournament teams if they are accepted. Most likely playing with 11 other girls who they have never met. So if a team wants to play the 14U tournament and the TD specifically allows rising 16U teams to play, where is the fault in entering that tournament? I just don't get it.

And Dan, we DON'T get a few grand. We submit receipts for payments made to third parties (i.e. motels) and we get reimbursed. It reduces how much in the red we are, but it doesn't add to our disposable income. "Cash paid" is a misnomer unless you are talking about the motel chains. No cash that we can use for anything other than softball motel expenses ever hits our accounts.

If you set the schedule and someone bashes the schedule they are bashing you not 14 and 15 year old girls, unless you are a 14 or 15 year old girl. I'm not bashing your schedule, don't even know it. I don't like the argument that has been used on OFC that if you criticize something about a team you are saying it to little girls and not the adults who run the show. Like they have some kind of immunity. ;&
