We tried to enter Stingrays and Lasers and for whatever reason were denied. We did go to GAPSS and other tournaments in the past that have been strong. Our first year we applied to Stingrays (again denied), but were at Compuware. The notion that we are "playing down" and only trying to collect hardware is ridiculous. Please get a life and quit bashing 14 and 15 year old girls. We went to the QDST because we were invited and for the experience. The competition was good and the girls had a great time. To all of you Madness "bashers": hopefully your teams care about each other and have as much fun as our girls do. That's what really counts.
First off, Congrats to the Madness 95 team on a great tournament championship!!!
Now, sully3, onto your comments about not being selected for tournaments. Stingrays require a resume with the application. The selection committee looks at each application and resume that is received. If you have, for example, ASA Regional Class "B" champion or playing and doing well in ASA local tournaments but no major ASA States or ASA National tournaments, well, that doesn't carry much weight. But, if you have ASA "A" Regional Champs, ASA States 3rd place finish, ASA National Qualifier 2nd place finish, now that is saying something to the selection committee. The selection committee is not a bunch of people who sit locked in a tiny building all year. They are softball people who are out at the ballparks all year long. They know what is going on. The committee also knows when someone is "stretching the truth" on their resume.
To say you were invited to Compuware and denied to Stingrays is not a valid argument for not getting into Lasers or Stingrays. Different showcases have different criteria for acceptance. Does this sound "elitist"? I hope so because Stingrays and Lasers want the elite teams at their tournaments. This is why teams apply, to play the best.
Now, the Madness 95 has done a great job of building their resume. Other teams should take note of how they are building their resume and follow them. For the upcoming tournament season, their resume will open some more doors for them to compete in more tournaments.
