Re-Entry Question

I know starters can come out of the game and re-enter once provided they occupy the same batting position.

If a non-starter (sub from bench) enters the game at some point, and is taken out, can they be re-entered provided they are in the same batting position?

If I am reading the ASA rule book correctly, any player me RE-enter once, so the answer to my question would be that a sub who comes off the bench and is later taken out, can re-enter providing they are in the same batting order.

Looking for clarification.

Yes.

Yes, definitely. The only exception to this I am aware of is in college where the sub can not reenter.

Not to sound redundant...but in ASA and NFHS, all starters and subs have one re-entry. Pretty sure the other sanctionings boddies are that way as well, but we seldom play anything but ASA so I'm hesitant to give you a definitive answer.

ASA: All players have one re-entry.

NFHS: All players have one re-entry.

USSSA: All players have one re-entry.

NSA: All players have one re-entry.

NCAA: Only starting players may re-entry.

NSA and USSSA slowpitch allow only starting players to re-enter. I've heard of several cases over the years where umpires with one of those organizations confused the slow and fastpitch rule. And, for what it's worth, high school baseball only allows starters to re-enter. I've heard of that one getting mixed up by guys that work both high school baseball and softball.

So it's not unprecedented for various "stick and ball" games to limit re-entry to starting players. It's always good to know how this is handled according to whichever sanctioning body you're playing for.

Different subject...how many times can you change pitchers if they dont leave the game. Is there a limit per game? per inning? Example 2 players pitcher/2B...Coach flips them middle of inning then flips them back then tried to flip them again but ump would not let him. All this was in same inning of game I was watching.

no restriction that I know of. There could be a conference limit. It sounds more like a stall tactic and the ump was nipping it in the bud.

Knowing the coach he wasnt stalling. They were up big and I think he was trying to get a less experienced pitcher some work at 10u. But she was struggling extending an already long hot game. Switched back. after 2 outs switched back and I think after struggling some more wanted to switch again. I was watching from the outfield and wasnt close enough to hear the explanation. Last 2 switches he didnt go to the circle. Just called for the switch from the bench.

There is no limitation in ASA on the number of times a player can return to the pitching position, but a pitcher returning to pitch in the same half-inning does not receive any warm-up pitches (see 6-9 Warm-up Pitches - Effect).
