I think that West should be pretty tough to beat.

Milford should be tough as well.

Top to bottom, perhaps the toughest softball league in Ohio. Milford will be extremely tough, but any of six teams could win the conference.

What does the pitching look like for each school? Other positions? Can't wait for the season to start! ;D

From what I have seen Milford should be very tough again this year. They came up one game short of the championship last year and they know what it takes to get back there.

btw do54, while I agree with you that the conference is pratty good top to bottom, there are some very tough confrences in the Northeast and around Columbus. Not sure anyone can make the claim that they have the best confrence perhaps until the season is over and we see where things shake out.

Rich, just to give you some background on the GMC. The weaker teams in the division at tournament draw time, usually opt to play out of the Columbus Region. In 2002 17-11 Sycamore won the Columbus Region and eventually lost in the state finals to Elyria. Milford finished fourth (?) in the conference before getting hot at tournament time. Not bad for a conference whose bottom tier would wins most other conferences in the state.

Hamilton High School beat Milford for the second time today.

Looks as if they will be the GMC Champs...

They were also awarded the number 1 seed last week in the draw.

Congratulations to Lakota West for being "voted" #1 in the Cincinnati Coaches Poll. Quite an accomplishment considering they neither won the Conference championship, nor had the best record. Good luck in the tournament.

What's up with that?
I wonder how close the vote was?
Could it be that the Castner brothers (Keith coaches Lakota West, Steve coaches Lakota East and Brian coaches Mason) votes were all for WEST? ;)

This was the most poorly officiated game I have ever witnessed at any level over the past eight years. The field umpire was making calls at first base from the first base line instead of moving into fair territory to get a proper angle. She clearly missed two calls at first.

On the play at third she was right on top of the play in the proper position and was overruled by the plate umpire who was standing 60 feet away at home plate looking down the line. It was the plate umpire who had the obstructed view, not the field umpire.

I realize that umpires miss calls and I absolutely have no problem with human mistakes. All I expect from umpires is that they hustle to be in the proper position to make the calls and wherever they determine the strike zone to be, even if it the size of shoe box, it stays there the entire game and is the same for both teams. I make it a point to thank the umpires every game for doing a thankless job.

Thankfully there are many good umpires out there and these two umpires are an embarassment to their profession.

Unfortunately, bad umpires are assigned to games just like the good ones. I consider it part of the game that you can't change. Lakota East won the game fair and square and I hope they go all the way.
