Rec ball over travel ball?

Rec ball must be different in different parts of the state. I don't know of 1 rec ball team in our area who could compete with any of the teams in the top 10 in the 14u poll. Many travel ball teams can't compete with the teams in the top 10. I just don't see how most community teams could compete with a team that pulls girls from all over a large metropolitan area or from across the state. It sounds as if girls in Northwest Ohio have access to a pretty good rec program, which can only help the girls and their high school programs.

Playing rec may not be a bad thing especially at the younger ages when the girls need more practice. We did both at 10 & 11u, but once we started playing with a more serious team then there was no going back to rec ball. JV was difficult for the same reason. It was trying, to say the least, to play on a team where girls don't know basic rules being coached by young ex-high school players with no coaching experience. All the varsity players had played travel ball so some of the younger travel players played JV. I felt like we were reliving the really bad rec team experience my daughter had when she was 11.
