Re: Results from the Kidron Tournment Wayne County
July 15, 2008
Dear Teams & Fans;
The 24th Annual Wayne County All-Stars Invitational Tournament is in the books. Thanks to the teams, the parents and fans, the tournament was a success both on and off the field. The tournament paid out $3,000.00 in scholarships and raised even more for future student-athlete scholarships.
The tournament began & ended with beautiful blue skies, but Saturday night, Mother Nature came to town and changed our schedule! We were able to finish two more games in Dalton (one a 14 inning marathon), but the final four games Saturday night were moved to Sunday morning beginning at 11:00 AM. With 8 teams remaining Sunday, Ashland defeated Ohio Ice blue 5-1, then the Pittsburgh Patriots sent Ashland home winning 15-7, while on the other diamond, Road Runners Elite defeated Road Runners Power 12-1, then beat Ohio Ice Sanor 2-1 to set up the FINAL FOUR.
The Road Runners Elite wasted no time jumping on the Pittsburgh Patriots 16-1 in 5 innings. In the winner?s bracket, the Ohio Attack and Ohio Bandits squared off with both teams scoring early, with the Bandits taking a 2 run lead into the sixth. The Ohio Attack was not to be denied, as they powered their way back into the lead winning the game 8-6. The Ohio Bandits then faced The Road Runners Elite. The Bandits took a large early lead, but the Road Runners battled back, but fell short 6-3, setting up another Ohio Attack ? Ohio Bandits matchup. The outcome was as in the first, with the Ohio Attack coming out on top 3-0, claiming their first Wayne County All-Stars Tournament Championship.
This was the second consecutive year in the Final Four for the Ohio Attack and the fourth in a row for both the Ohio Bandits and the Road Runners Elite.
Next year?s tournament (a special 25th Anniversary Tournament) is scheduled for July 10, 11 & 12 2009. The invitations will be extended soon!
Sincerely,
Bob Bercaw Dick Stull
