I never said hitting a batter makes you not a "milquetoast pantywaist". What makes you a milquetoast pantywaist is whining about every little thing, whether real or imagined. About being upset about things that you have no control over. About GETTING HIT and acting like it should never happen.

To sum up, so there are no misconceptions, if my DD gets hit intentionally... well, it happens. It's part of the risk you take when you play ANY sport. Hard hits in football, ******, hockey, basketball...etc. So, to assume that it doesn't happen in softball is just plain silly. And no matter what anyone thinks about the right or wrongness of it, it will never go away. There will always be intentional hits and 98% of the time, you will never prove it. So I'm saying that, for me and mine, we just roll with it.

To be honest the term you used just stuck in my head, but my reply was directed toward the entirety of the thread. I wasn't calling you out and I agree...I don't like whining either.

I'll make a deal with all of the hitters out there.....

Set up in the middle of the box and let the pitcher use the whole plate they'll stop coming in on your elbow and stop plunking a few of you each and every game.... but if you continue to insist on putting you dainty little toes on that white line they will continue to throw breaking screw balls inside. The goal here is to put a ball on your hands so that you can't hit it... duh.

You sneaky things want the pitchers to throw a ball out over the plate so that you can use the fat part of the bat on it. If they come inside and you get hit... your parents can scream that it was intentional.. oh my!

So you get hit.. change your position in the box and give the pitchers some room to work.... or don't. They don't really care.

OK - I just can't read all these responses because I might lose my mind. But I will say this...

Pitchers hit batters
Pitchers hit batters on purpose
Opposing pitchers retaliate
All the above is part of the game.

Coaches that TELL pitchers to hit someone (or tell players to cause injury on purpose) should be called out online, reported to ASA, NSA, and the authorities (possible assault). Then he/she should have his arse kicked!!!

I find it amusing that anyone would equate hitting a batter with somehow not being a "milquetoast pantywaist". I would never direct one of my players to purposely throw at a batter. That to me is nothing short of a coach defending their manhood in a girl's game. There's no place for it.

I like to call that little man syndrome. I don't teach hitting kids, coaches are role models and should act like it. Be tough on them at times then build them up but to teach retaliation or to hit a kid on purpose is a joke. I have actually been in some chit chat with my girls in the past and one made mention...something like I wouldn't hit someone on purpose I wouldn't want a runner on base...that's what I wanna hear.

That's the major problem: to extrapolate some ball shirt tradition in baseball into a game that young ladies play. Who's idea is it to throw at the next batter? Some middle aged guy who's testosterone (what's left at our age) get's the best of him to make an ill advised decision that is carried out by a 15 girl. She is not your team's hitman. You want to retaliate? it's called SCOREBOARD, my man.
If you want to throw at someone, put on a uniform, join a man's fastpitch softball or baseball team and do it yourself.

Well when you got an ump who's calling the outside corner 4-6" off the plate and a pitcher who lives there hitters gonna crowd. Just sayin'......

If you stand on the plate sooner or later your going to get hit. Intentional or not its part of the game.

Ok, now my daughter was a pitchers nightmare.

She was Catcher with a big stick.

The only way a pitcher could get a strike on Candice
and the best most pitcher could hope for was a foul
ball.

She had many of pitcher tell her, they hated to pitch when she was at the plate.

She gave a pitcher nothing. No plate to work with.

Many time we watch her go to the plate and foul off 7-12
Pitches just to get the ball in play.

How many time do you think my little Candice
Was hammer by the pitcher. ALL THE TIME

I agree that your top of the line true clean up batters.
We be hit by the ball allot

And yes its part of the game ! If you don't think so
just ask to see a few of her battle scares this week-end
at the Jamboree.
