Came across this and was wondering if there were any teams using right handed slap hitting or the slug? Pros and cons?

I think a slug is some sort of bug....:)....as far as right handed slapping goes, go ahead and go for it, at the higher levels, it will result in an automatic out.

I know there is a slug bunt.....it's intended to look like a basic bunt but at the last possible moment the hitter puts the hands against each other and swings with all wrists with the intent of hitting a hard grounder through the infield. Also known as the fake bunt...lol

In order to make it clear to my batters I call this a 'half hit'. The batter shows bunt then pulls the bat back about halfway to a level swing loaded position and hits the ball. I saw one of the Arizona teams do this at a WWS with the count at 2 strikes. They put a lot of balls in play. The batter has more control of the bat and are much more aggressive. Much better than a 'K'.

The hitter moves up in the box to sell bunt and to keep it in fair territory and then shows bunt and upon the pitchers release we drop the bat down by relaxing the grip so the hands are at the top of the grip on the bat and go back a little and hit the ball hard.

Usually a ball goes to the fence or over and the third baseman looks very awkward!

We use it in obvious bunting situations and sell it by moving up in the box and usually the pitch is inside which helps more as we shorten up on the bat. If the defense plays the third basemen in close good luck even if she has a mask on!

We do not walk forward on this one and simply hit the ball hard. We do have another where we walk and hit.

Slug bunt is a term I remember from baseball. I could see it working with short and second deep and the corners up and the batter hitting a ball hard enough to get a ball past either 3B and P or 1B and P. Would create a difficult play for SS or 2B. Thanks to Howard for explaining the usefulness of a power slap by a righty. There are certainly other situations where a right handed slap would be effective. For example to score a runner from third or sacrifice a runner from second to third. It also keeps a squeeze in play as a foul ball would not result in a K. If its a tool one of your players can develop, why not utilize it.
