NORTON — Tyler Muncy struck out 13 and pitched a four-hit shutout to lead Wise Central to a 4-0 win over Grayson County in a Region 2D baseball quarterfinal game on Tuesday night. The matchup was postponed from Monday night. The 6-foot-3 Muncy, who threw 84 of his 115 pitches for strikes, didn’t give up a walk. He aided his cause at the plate with a double and an RBI. Noah Bolling had a two-run single in the third inning and J.P. Stallard went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and two runs scored for the Warriors’ other runs. Chris Meredith went 2-for-3 to lead the Blue Devils. Shawn Campbell struck out seven, but he gave up five hits and four walks over five innings to suffer the loss. Wise Central will play Virginia High on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the first regional semifinal game at Bristol’s Boyce Cox Field. Tazewell plays John Battle in the second semifinal. SOFTBALL LEBANON 8, RIDGEVIEW 4 BRISTOL, Va. — Haley Finney’s walk-off grand slam completed the Lady Pioneers’ comeback from a 4-0 deficit in a heartbreaking Region 2D semifinal loss for the Lady Wolfpack. Lebanon trailed 4-3 entering the seventh inning before scoring the tying run and then loading the bases to set the stage for Finney, whose shot lifted the Lady Pioneers into a state tournament berth. Ridgeview scored all four of its runs in the third. Nikole Counts drove in Camdyn Sykes for the first run and later Lauren Rasnick came in to make it 2-0. The Wolfpack tacked on the other two runs before the Lebanon rally started with three runs in the sixth inning. It marked the final game for Peyton Hill, Ridgeview’s lone senior. RICHLANDS 10, JOHN BATTLE 3 BRISTOL, Va. — The Blue Tornado crushed four home runs, including three-run bombs by Lauren Earls and Savannah Stevenson, in the romp over the Lady Trojans. Ginger Short and Chloe Newberry each added solo shots in the Richlands win. Haylee Dye had a solo home run for John Battle. BOYS SOCCER VIRGINIA HIGH 5, UNION 0 BRISTOL, Va. — Alex Adkins and Lane Carroll had two goals each in the Bearcats’ shutout win over the Bears in the Region 2D semifinals. Brown Cooper added the other goal for Virginia High, which will take on Graham on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the final. GRAHAM 7, LEBANON 4 BRISTOL, Va. — Craig Hrovatic and Joey Dales each recorded hat tricks to lead the G-Men over the Pioneers. Benjamin White accounted for Graham’s other goal. Drew Baker finished with two assists. BOYS TENNIS JOHN BATTLE 5, MARION 2 NORTON — No. 1 singles player Reed Crabtree rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kyle Robinson and later teamed with Hudson Crabtree on another shutout in doubles to lead the Trojans to the romp over the Hurricanes. Battle got other points with No. 2 Adam Terry’s shutout and Hudson Crabtree winning 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Peyton Mumpower provided the other point with a hard-fought a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over Trey Thompson. Duncan Martin and Zach Robinson won singles matches for Marion.
