From staff reports COEBURN — Eastside’s Noah Rasnick struck out 12 Wise Central batters, and the Spartans’ Drew Richards had two hits and three RBIs Wednesday to lead Eastside to a 7-0 win over Wise County rival Wise Central at Alumni Field. Rasnick pitched five and two-thirds innings in picking up the win. Cole Harness added two RBIs for Eastside in the win, while Dakota Moore added another. Zach James and Landon Elkins had two hits apiece for Central. The victory by the Class 1 Spartans completes a season sweep over Class 2 Wise County rivals Central and Union. John Battle 15, Union 1 (5 innings) BIG STONE GAP — The visiting Trojans scored eight runs on four hits and four Union errors in the top of the second inning to set the tone for the Mountain 7 contest at Buster Taylor Field. Mikey Statti went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Battle, while Bryce Bowman and Jarret Pool each had two hits and two RBIs in the game. Jake Mumpower finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs and scored two runs, and Isaac Deel went 2-for-4 at the plate for John Battle. Brennan Jones scored Union’s lone run on a sacrifice fly from Cam Bartee. Cloudland 6, Avery County 5 ROAN MOUNTAIN — All of a sudden, the Cloudland baseball team is unstoppable. After getting their first win of the season on Tuesday, the Highlanders defeated Avery County, N.C.. Against the Vikings, Mark Tester recorded 13 strikeouts in a complete game while Collin Morgan had the go-ahead double to score Hayden Shell. Cloudland went on the road and beat Hancock County 6-2 on Tuesday. Dillon Johnson pitched 4 2/3 innings with no earned runs and Joshua Stevens finished the deal by throwing four strikeouts and giving up just one earned run over the last 2 1/3 innings. Tester and Johnson each had two hits in the win, while Brayden Christman had a key hit. University High 11, Happy Valley 0, 5 inn. ELIZABETHTON — A.J. Simerly drove in three runs and three pitchers combined to hold Happy Valley to two hits at Cannon-Gouge Park. Simerly went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Brant Hare, who tripled, was joined by Jake Oligny in going 2-for-2 for the Junior Buccaneers. Jakob Hare added a pair of hits in three at-bats while Jack Bembry went 1 for 1, drew a walk and scored twice. Pitching the first three innings for UH was the winner, Bembry. Essau Byrd and Kaleb Meredith followed with an inning apiece as the trio combined for six strikeouts (two each), issuing no walks. Eli Fleenor was 1-for-1 for Happy Valley. Teammate Kevin Whitaker batted 1 for 3. SOFTBALL Union 6, John Battle 1 BRISTOL, Va. — Union’s win crowded things at the top of the Mountain 7 District standings. Marleigh Duncan picked up a complete-game win on the mound for the Lady Bears and made a lot of noise with her bat. Duncan broke open a 1-1 tie with a grand slam in the top of the third inning. With Battle’s loss, the Lady Trojans, Ridgeview, Abingdon, Union and Gate City all are logjammed at the top of the Mountain 7 standings with two losses each in the district. John Battle has the advantage in the win column with five district wins, while Ridgeview and Abingdon have four district victories, and Union and Gate City have three district wins apiece. Twin Springs 14, Sullivan North 2 (6 innings) KINGSPORT — Chenoa Dean had three doubles and four RBIs as the Lady Titans picked up an interstate win over the Lady Raiders. Bell McCoy finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Twin Springs in the win. Makayla Estepp went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for North. Cloudland 3, University High 2 Leah Birchfield tagged an RBI single to score Marlee Hughes for the winning run, giving the Lady ’Landers a regular-season sweep of the Lady Bucs. Kenzie Birchfield starred in the circle with nine strikeouts and at the plate by going 3-for-3, while Jasmine Birchfield was 2-for-3. Kensington Dailey suffered the loss despite throwing 15 strikeouts and not giving up any earned runs. She also went 2-for-3 and scored both of University High’s runs. Emily Morgan was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Unicoi County 9, Sullivan East 4 BLUFF CITY — With Halie Padgett going 3-for-4, the Lady Blue Devils totaled a dozen hits in their Three Rivers win over East. Samantha Chavez turned in a 2-for-3 effort with two runs and pair of walks. Sydney Miller socked two doubles and Tanya Chavez one as they each batted 2-for-4, with Rylee Stiltner ripping a two-run homer. Miller added two RBIs of her own and scored twice. Topping an 11-hit Lady Patriots assault was Jana White at 4-for-4 (2 runs). Autumn Gobble doubled in a 2-for-3 output and Amber Turner went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Tuesday Dobyns-Bennett 10, Volunteer 1 CHURCH HILL — Morgan Rifle pitched a three-hitter and Peyton Domby unloaded for a grand slam to help the Lady Indians break a nine-game losing streak. McCoy Hensley went 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Riffle contributed a pair of hits, including a double. D-B’s Alison Reece opened the scoring with a solo homer in the first inning. Alli Chandler homered for the Lady Falcons. Elizabethton 15, Happy Valley 4, 8 inn. ELIZABETHTON — Polishing off a perfect run through their 12-game Three Rivers Conference schedule, the visiting Lady Cyclones survived an upset bid by Happy Valley. The game was tied at 4 heading into the eighth, then EHS erupted for 11 runs — totaling 10 of their 19 hits in the process. Maci West finished the scoring with a two-run home run, her fifth hit of the contest. Lauren Brickey doubled, scored twice and amassed five RBIs in a 3-for-6 performance for the Lady Cyclones. Moreover, she pitched six innings of one-run relief to pocket the victory. Bailey Creasey batted 3-for-5 and prolonged the contest by driving in a run in the seventh. Adding two hits apiece were Kaylin Shell (double), Kira Dillard and Macie Herrmann, who homered, scored three times and had two RBIs. Elizabethton’s Maggie Johnson knocked in a pair of runs. The Lady Warriors’ Kadie Havner swatted a third-inning homer. Olivia Absher went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
