Should a Freshman or JV team EVER beat varsity?

This is common in areas where a particular sport has MATURED fast in the Community/Rec levels in which kids 2-3 yrs prior to that maturing don't have the skills the incoming Freshman do.

How that is managed is completely up to the High School Coach and AD's philosophy and goals. Hard to move Jr and Sr. players backwards when they've done all the work, but it just happened to not be as great instruction they were receiving. Parents alike have done 2-3yrs of fundraising, pitching lessons, hitting lessons.... team practice and sacrificed other activities/events for their team.

When programs are in transition and TRENDING UP, it makes perfect sense to let that Freshman or JV team beat the Varsity, but a wise Coach will allow some of those fantastic FROSH play both with their FROSH teams, then Dress Varsity and prove themselves into playing time for the best of both worlds and to truly field the best team without dis-respecting the Jr. & Sr.s commitment over the last few years.

NOTE: To those Jr & Sr. Players/Parents in this scenario, this just might be THE BEST life lesson our Children can learn from HS Ball. As when time comes in the workplace in which all our education, training, and experience is NO LONGER ADEQUATE due to re-org, transitional/business shifts..... there are two options:

1. Quit and find another company(Team - Rec League, B Travel, ... Slow Pitch... )where current skills & experience are viewed as acceptable

2. Commit to Challenging ourselves to grow and learn to fill the deficit and compete for our jobs(Positions/Playing Time).

There is no 1 right answer, it clearly depends on everyone's individual situation and perspective, but I know at this early age WITH NOTHING TO LOSE , I would LOVE to see my kid COMPETE for that position against a younger more skilled player knowing that only some hard work & time separates their abilities. Now if Softball wasn't HER THING,,,,,,,,, Option #1 sounds pretty good too. ^_^!
