Should Field of Dreams have a HIGH SCHOOL division live pitching hitting league? Need input ASAP.

This is undeniably THE BEST way to improve over the winter. Batters will be hit off of a live pitcher who is trying to strike them out!! The pitchers will be pitching to batters girls who are trying to drop bombs!! This league will give the pitchers & hitters the best kind of practice they can get. You can't beat this type of practice!! Coaches & parents....I would like your input.

If we created a high school division for this kind of hitting league, would you register a team?

I will have to move quickly to make this happen, and we would need at least 4 teams interested in participating.

What: Live Pitching Hitting league
Where: Field of Dreams in Lancaster
When: Thursday nights, 6:00 & 7:30 PM from Jan 16th thru Feb 20.
Cost: $320 per team.
Why: Champions are made in the off-season

For those of you who are concerned that participation in this hitting league might jeopardize their OHSAA eligibility, please know that this league ends before the first day of school ball practice. (Thank you, SteamRollers)

OHSAA General Sports Regulation 7.3** states the following..

7.3) Participating in Non-Interscholastic Programs ? Team Sports

? A member of an interscholastic squad sponsored by the Board of Education or other governing board in a team

sport (baseball, basketball, field hockey, football, ice hockey, ******, softball and volleyball)

shall not participate in an athletic contest, tryouts or any type of team or group training or

practices on a non-interscholastic squad in a team sport in the same sport during the school?s

interscholastic sports season. This regulation is applicable for those invited to participate in

a tryout, group training or practices at a college or in contests, tryouts, group training or

practices with any non-school team such as a club.



According to the OHSAA 2013-2014 Calendar, the School Softball Season begins March 29th.***
Pitcher & Catcher Coaching begins on Feb 24, 2014.
This live pitching hitting league ends Feb 20, 2014.

I know of a couple individuals who are looking to form a team for this.
This is absolutely blowing me away that people are not jumping at the chance to get into a hitting league with live pitching.
This post is specifically for the high school division, but we have spots available in 12U & 14U as well.

Remember, this will not jeopardize your school ball eligibility. Come work out in Central Ohio's newest indoor training facility, built and run by softball coaches. This place is the dedicated softball player's dream!

Not sure if you have edited the OP, but if this league is ending 2/20.....then that is before first day of school ball practice on 2/24....So where would there be any questions or problems to begin with??????

Would there be an issue between Feb 1 and Feb 20 if more than 4 girls from the same high school? I know the indoor winter leagues where high school teams play have to end by January 31 ...

I don't know for sure, CoachJWB. This is a question that the players should probably ask their athletic director.
Here's what I know for sure...the official first day of school ball practice is Feb 24th 2014.
The girls should be able to do anything prior to that date.
I checked the website for another facility in Central Ohio that is offering a similar type of hitting league to see what they are advertising. They are offering a high school division for their live pitching hitting league as well. Their league games are on Saturdays beginning Jan 11th & run for 5 weeks + a playoff week for $400 per team.
Our league games are on Thursday evenings at 6 or 7:30 PM starting Feb 13th & ending Thursday, Feb 20th.
It is possible that holding the high school division league on a Thursday evening could affect the participation #'s, because that might be a practice night. We can't use Saturdays for this league right now because we have many teams interested in renting our facility for team practices on Saturdays!
Back to this original question....I don't see that participation in this live hitting league will affect the kids' eligibility for their school ball team...I'm sure my competitor up in Dublin has had to deal with this issue & they wouldn't be offering their league if it was a concern either.

Well it looks like FOD isn't holding a high school division live pitching hitting league this session at all. However, there is still room for a couple more teams in our regular hitting league.
This picture shows the availability for all ages as of one hour ago.
We extended the deadline a little because of the weather.
Don't hesitate...get your team in ASAP.
