We help sell chances on the superbowl this year to pay for my granddaughters national tournament. The coach informed us yesterday that he is only taking some of the girls to nationals and taking the new girls that tried out for the team for next year. We sold over 12 squares at 25.00 a square and some of the girls that he is taking did not sell any. And of course the new try outs did not sell any. The people we sold the squares to was under the impression they was helping my granddaughter out and helping pay for her national tournament.

That sounds bogus to me! Why would a coach not take as many players to Nationals as wants to go?
If it is a true National, you need subs and pinch runners. So I can see the coach adding players, but to tell players who paid fees and have been on the team all year, to stay home is unbelievable. Maybe he was honest and parents don't want to spend the money for their daughter not to play, but crazy for a coach to not allow them to go.
If this is what he actually did - Call him out on here!

He told them last night at practice ( and granddaughter has been with him a year and a half now) that he’s only taking 10 girls and 9 will bat. He said he wants to see how the girls he’s thinking about offering positions on the team for next year play in tournaments. Now granted we traveled to Mo two weeks ago and my granddaughter never struck out but seemed like all her hits was infield. I was just shocked that a coach would take the money we worked hard to sell on a fundraiser and give it to girls that try out. The people who bought the squares was buying them to help my granddaughter out.

You were scammed….sadly this happens way too often. Yes you should ask for and receive a refund as what that coach did is borderline criminal. I would also contact the organization board and let them know. You can also effect their 501c3. If it was a true national the roster that won the play in should be playing and subs need to be rostered prior to the event. Your issues need to be a RED flag for all parents and key points to ask during tryouts. Dose the team have a 501c3, is there a board for the organization, are the coaches certified, after you get answers on these questions then look at tournament invited too played in and record in them. Then forecast of events, fees and fundraisers returning players etc. before you commit.

@mom76632 1) The coach should be taking the team "that got them there," not a team full of subs that he thinks are better players than the players he's leaving behind. 2) You helped raise money so the team could go. You are part of that team. If you aren't going, then you deserve some money back. 3) If there's a board of directors for the organization, I'd be complaining loudly and encourage the other parents to do the same. If there isn't, I'd be telling the coach he has 2 choices, leave the subs behind and take the team that raised the money or take the subs and you'll see him in small claims court when he gets back.

Either way, it's time to move on as it's clear he wants to replace your player with someone he feels is better.

Cards and yocoach have answered your questions and have shared my sentiments as well. I'm sorry you are going thru this. As mentioned, it happens way too often.

I'd love to see the name of this person and team posted on here. People need to know who's doing this stuff.

You need to start planning your tryout schedule for another organization/team.

I'm sorry to hear about the situation. It's disappointing when things don't go as expected after putting in the effort. Hopefully, there is a way to clear up the misunderstanding and find a solution.
