Slow pitch question

Having been an active player in my youth and starting out running SP events, I can relate to some of the things here. When I was first playing, our men's team practiced almost weekly on Weds nights for Friday league games. We used to hit infield after hitting practice, etc. As we got older and I started to play more weekend ball, the "official" practices came to an end. It just turned into about 2 guys shagging balls with another pitching BP.

When I ran SP tournaments, I noticed the more skilled levels all showed up about an half hour to 45 minutes early and hit before their first games of the morning. The not so skilled all rolled up about 20 minutes before game time and barely got in the dugout for the coin flip and ground rules.

Imagine my surprise running my first youth event and getting the park at 6:45 to help line the fields and seeing girls already stretching and doing skill drills when I pulled up. Major culture shock but I enjoyed the dedication to excellence and stayed with youth over adult. :)

Wow! That's reading a lot into it...

Competitive Leagues are prevalent in our area. Co-ed, Men's, Women's.
For the rest of us, there's Church League.

People who want to win play in option A.
People (like me) who get up at 4:30 in the morning, work 10 hour days, go home to take care of the house, the yard, wife, kid, dog, and 3 cars. Who only want to spend time with their daughter before she moves away to start her own life, and are too tired/busy for "practice", go to Option B.

Actually many church leagues & teams are much more competitve & serious than most. There are all levels of competitive sl0-pitch from Majors to E........If wanting what you describe - I'd find the Friday night Beer League - those are usually the ones were there are good players, but don't take it so serious & just out for fun.....
