[Softball] Bryan Bounces Back, Bruising #21 Brenau In Walk-Off Ending

DAYTON, Tenn. – It wasn't until the fourth inning of today's doubleheader opener that the 21st-ranked Brenau University (Ga.) ran away for an 11-3 win over host Bryan College softball, but the overwhelming defeat of the Lions wouldn't prevent them from responding in game two. In a nightcap involving a very spread out attack, it was Bryan who had the last answer beginning with Lindsey Dunn (SO/Tennga, Ga.) ripping a leadoff single to left in the bottom of the seventh. Kayla Hayes (SO/Dresden, Tenn.) followed with a sacrifice bunt, advancing Dunn to second. A groundout notched out number two for the Golden Tigers, but after Heidi Smith (SO/Cookeville, Tenn.) was walked then it all came down to Bryan's slugging leader Hannah O'Shields (JR/LaFayette, Ga.). The junior LaFayette, Ga. native let the count build to 2-2 before connecting on an RBI single to left that scored Dunn to prevail 3-2 in walk-off fashion! The Appalachian Athletic Conference split improved the Lion's conference record to 9-12 and overall record to 12-29, while the Golden Tigers fell to 10-6 in the AAC and 21-14 overall.
