SANTEE, Calif. — The No. 5 team in the nation held the Hawks to two runs in the double-header on Saturday night.

Vanguard defeated the Hawks softball team 11-1 in Game 1 and 9-1 in Game 2.

The losses drop the Hawks to 10-22 on the season and 0-10 in GSAC play. The Lions improved to 41-6 and 7-4 respectively.

In Game 1, the Lions scored right out of the gate with a run in the top of the first. They also added two runs in the second.

The Hawks were able to score in the bottom half of the inning as Nicole Whiteny singled to left scoring Jordan Neal.

But that was the last run the Hawks scored in the game. The Lions were held without a run until the sixth inning when they scored three for a 6-1 lead. VU kept pounding in the seventh with five runs to take their 11-1 lead.

Neal led the team with two hits and the run scored.

Game 2 was much of the same for Vanguard. They broke out in the top of the first with four runs with all runs coming home without a RBI hit. VU scored on two wild pitches, a sac fly and a bases-loaded walk.

Bailey Romano answered with an RBI triple, right after Tori Harris hit one herself to cut the deficit to 4-1.

But just like Game 2, that was the last run they scored. Vanguard added three runs in the fourth and two in the seventh to cap the scoring.

The Hawks will play Hope International on Tuesday before hosting William Jessup on Friday and Menlo on Saturday.
