[Softball] Prieto and Cerny Power No. 1 USAO to a Sweep at Texas Wesleyan

FORT WORTH, Texas – The top ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma improved their win streak to 32 games as they swept the double-header at Texas Wesleyan University. The Drovers now have a 12-0 record in conference play and a 25-0 record overall. Texas Wesleyan falls to 3-7 in SAC play, and 6-18 overall. USAO was able to take the first game 6-1, followed by a 5-3 victory in game two.

GAME 1 –

No. 1 USAO was able to score first, scoring four runs in the top of the second inning. Texas Wesleyan cut the deficit to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Drovers answered right back with a run of their own in the top of the fifth. The defending champions added one more insurance run in the top of the sixth inning to put the game away for good.

The back-to-back SAC Pitcher of the Week, Emily Cerny (SO/Newcastle, OK), was dominant once again. Cerny pitched all 7 innings to pick up the complete game victory, improving her record to 8-0. The reigning NAIA player of the year struck out 13 batters and only allowed one earned run.

Karlie Velasco (SR/Del City, OK) led the Drovers' offense, going 2-4 with a triple and a trio of runs batted in. Randa Hatter (JR/Stratford, Okla.) and Keely Kingsley (SR/Oklahoma City, OK) each finished with two-hit performances. Hatter now has collected two hits or more in 10 games so far this season. Emily Cerny helped her own cause as she finished 1-3 at the plate, with 2 runs and a solo homerun. Tarah Madron (JR/Konawa, OK) and Kristen Prieto (JR/Moore, OK) each left the yard with solo homers in the win. Destinie Lookout (SR/Oklahoma City, OK) and Dakota Clouse (SR/Blancahard, OK) both added singles in game one of the double-header.

GAME 2 –

The No. 1 Drovers started red-hot in the opening inning of the game, as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The lead was short lived as Texas Wesleyan responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning. USAO took the lead once again in the top of the fourth inning as they scored one run. The defending champs added one final insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to win 5-3.

Falon Howell (SO/Duncan, OK) picked up her fifth win of the season as she pitched the final five innings of the game. Howell allowed zero runs and struck out a pair of batters, leading No. 1 USAO to the win.

Kristen Prieto was a beast at the dish in game two of the double-header. Prieto went 2-3, with 2 runs scored, 2 homeruns, and 3 RBI's. She now leads the Drovers in homeruns with eight so far this season. Darci Chester (SO/Collinsville, OK) finished with a 1-4 performance that included a double and a RBI. Destinie Lookout and Keely Kingsley each finished the game 1-4 with a run scored. Karlie Velasco, Randa Hatter, Tarah Madron, Alyson Clemence (SO/Washington, OK), and Dakota Clouse each concluded with one hit each.

The Drovers will look to extend their incredible win streak as they host Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Wednesday, March 27 at 4 and 6 PM at Bill Smith Ballpark.
