St. Ambrose continued its hot start to the 2019 season, sweeping a pair of games behind dominant pitching performances in the Ambrose Dome Saturday. The Bees defeated Mount Mary 7-0 before besting the St. Louis College of Pharmacy 15-0 in five innings.

Christina Pembrook and Sarah Willman combined on a three-hitter in the opener. Pembrook allowed just one hit over five innings before giving way to Willman, who worked two scoreless frames.

Olivia McClintock led the offensive charge with three hits. Pembrook, Libby Munsterman and Karley Kopaska each collected two hits.

Madelyn Thompson and Munsterman had RBI hits in the first inning to stake Pembrook to an early 2-0 lead. The Bees added three more runs in the third, benefitting from a Mount Mary error that allowed two unearned runs to score. Munsterman also had a run-scoring single in the inning. Colleen Barrett had an RBI single and Kopaska an RBI triple in the fifth to complete the scoring.

Pembrook struck out eight in earning the victory.

Nine different Bees had at least one hit in the win over the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, but the story of the game was Jane Thomas. After Thomas allowed a leadoff single to begin the game, she retired the next 15 batters in order to finish with a one-hit shutout.

SAU broke things open in the bottom of the first, plating seven runs on seven hits. The Bees added three runs in the second and scored five more times in the third.

Thompson, Munsterman and Kopaska each had multi-hit games. Thompson, Kopaska and Tara Lance each knocked in a pair of runs. McClintock, Munsterman, Willman, Morgan Krieger and Makena McConnaughhay each had one RBI.

Mount Mary defeated the St. Louis College of Pharmacy 5-4 in eight innings in another game played at the Ambrose Dome Saturday.

The Bees will now head to Florida next Saturday for their annual Spring Break trip.
