I bought his DVD set a couple years ago, and I agree with his principles. His methods of teaching may not suit everybody, because he goes into such great depth. But he explains why, and after you explore what he's trying to teach, you'll see why.
Actually, Steve Englishbey doesn't teach hitting, and he says so on his DVDs. He teaches solid swing mechanics. To me, learning to hit a baseball or softball is encapsulated into two distinct activities that eventually work together.
I like to think of learning swing mechanics as separate from the vision, timing and reading the pitch, etc. I've seen kids with beautiful swings, but just seem to make poor choices when at bat. They swing at pitches in the dirt, over their head - you name it. When they DO connect, the ball is hit VERY HARD, and usually goes a country mile. On the other hand, I've seen kids with an ugly, level wristy swing who puts the bat on the ball quite frequently. The problem is, their hits are usually ground outs to short, weak pop flies - almost always an out.
It takes both parts to make a consistent power hitter. So if you believe that just repeating "see the ball - hit the ball" over and over to your DD will help her to be a good hitter, don't waste your time and money with this stuff, because it is a lot more involved.
