I met the Grand Slam coach at Compuware this year. He and his wife are nice people. His wife told me that they start a new team at the younger ages and coach them until the are done in the 18s. They did it once when their daughters were younger, and they continued to do it after their daughters are gone. They are still trying to decide if they will begin one more team after this one.

Grand Slam was at Best of the Best this year, going 6-1 in pool play. Then they lost the first bracket game and had to play a bunch of games to get back to the championship game. They lost the championship game.

Right after that, I believe they won Compuware.

The team is a strong team--boasting great bats and solid defense.

Congrats Grand Slam ! Looks like the second time in 2 years that the top teams in ASA Nationals are from east of the Mississippi ! Not to mention Ohio !

Is Grand Slam the team w// the majority of the North C. Hoover HS team?

Grand Slam is coached by Hoover High coach Jerry Goodpasture and has standout pitcher Jessica Simpson as its star along with two other NC players (Ofer Felicia Houtz and 1B A. Lindeman),
but to say a majority of the players are Hoover players would be incorrect and against OHSAA rules since Goodpasture is the coach of both.
Hoover C Sarah Gerber, CF McKenna Russ and couple others play for the North Canton Cobras
Hoover 2B Megan Lilley plays for the Chicago-based Beverly Bandits, who finished fourth in ASA 16U in Seattle.
Hoover 3B Erin Riccardi and a couple more play for Ice.
Grand Slam had a great run. There are more Midwest teams making a dent each year at the ASA scene!!!

I thought per high school rules, coaches can only have 10 contacts in June? So a coach can coach the the team girls in the summer?

I think from June 1- July 31 it doesn't matter and if the team is in a nationals you play until eliminated as long as before labor Day - this is from an old memory so somwone with a better memory please correct me if wrong

Woolfie,
I didn't forget Courtney Pruner, who went to Ellet/OSU -- the question was about Hoover players on the Grand Slam team.
One former Viking, graduated SS Debbie Warner, previously played on the Grand Slam team, but did not this year.
Debbie's departure leaves a big hole, but the Vikings Super Seven Sophomores are eager to make another run at the Division I title in Ashland the first weekend in June.
All played competitive ball this summer and should be even stronger next spring. But you've got to do it on the field.

i wonder why they bother even having that rule about coaches only having 10 days if june 1st thru july 31 is pretty much the whole season.

on another note: saw the team play some up in Ashland and was very impressed with them and Elyria.

The June 1 - July 31, only comes into play if there are four or less girls from the HS on the team. Anything over that and the contact days rule applies.

Hermom, Elyria returns virtually its entire starting lineup intact -- Hoover loses the SS. We'll see which team got better. The left side of Elyria's infield as very, very strong. Elyria will have to score off Simpson.
