Beverly Bandits beat Buckeye Heat 6-0 in a game closer than score indicates in 16U championship bracket second-round game in Seattle.
North Canton Hoover High second baseman Megan Lilley had two hits, including game-winning hit on a single down right-field line with two on in fifth inning to break a scoreless pitchers' duel and lift Chicago-based Bandits.
JoeA, I'm always pulling for ya -- except when my kid's up!!!! Sorry the two teams had to meet so early. My wife told me your team is excellent and played a heckuva game!!!

Hey Boldie

Buckeye Heat wins two yesterday before bowing to the Virginia Shamrocks 5-4 (after being up 4-2). This means the Heat are done in the tournament, but what a great run the girls had, losing only to the Beverly Bandits, who are in the Sweet 16, and the Shamrocks, who over the years are consistently in the hunt for a national title. (BTW, Joe reports on the Huddle that Rayburn Hesse of Spy Softball was in attendace at the Shamrocks game).

This team is special. Congrats to the girls and their parents.

Congrats to JoeA and the Heat and the Lasers Orange on GREAT runs!!! Unless you're at the event, you have no idea how hard it is to win at this level. The kids can go back to school and tell their peers what happened, but the peers have NO point of reference
Go Bandits!!! They play San Diego Renegades at 10 a.m. pct today in Sweet 16 game!!

Excellent go at it girls! You went undefeated in your pool, and 1-2 in elimination against some pretty tough teams! Way to hang!

I believe that the last time I checked the 18s, Grand Slam was still in the winner's bracket. Ohio Bandits and Central Ohio Stingrays were in the losers bracket. I believe the rest of the Ohio teams were done.

Congrats to the Grand Slam, we are rooting for you here in OHIO!!!

Historical sidebar trivia concearning grand slams:

Who is the only professional baseball player to ever hit a grand slam off of Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer? Hint, it happened during a rehab stint to the minors for Palmer, and the future Hall of famer that hit it hadn't reached the Show yet.
