I'm going to give a shout out to all the girls that play the worst position on a team and that's coaches kid.
It's doesn't matter if your 8u or 18u, if your mom or dad is the head coach your held to a higher standard,
your the focal point for every disgruntled playing time parent despite generally having the least amount of
playing time, you live with the coach, ride to and from games with the coach, hear people say stuff about your mom or dad... Really you young ladies have it the toughest.

We read a lot about daddy or mommy ball... I'm just posting a thread in support of all you young ladies who
just want to play ball.

This is not in regards to anything specific, just things I see, hear and read on a yearly basis without as much of a thought or care about that kid.

Keep playing good ball ladies!

Great post Uber. I do think that part of the problem though is that when the daughter is not the starting pitcher, catcher etc. they leave and form a team around her. Someone has to play rightfield!!! But most can't accept that and now Ohio is flooded with teams. Don't believe me? Go look in the tryout forums. I think that spawns negative connotations. You will be hard pressed to find the coach's daughter as the starting rightfielder. It happens, but very rare. This is just an opinion.

Don't know what age you are with, BUT Right field is crucial the older you get. The younger age groups need to start teaching kids that outfield is just as important if not more important than some infield positions. An error in the infield will cost you a base, an error in the outfield will cost you runs.

I think most of us coaches started because we coached our daughters. I found if you treated everyone the same especially your daughter there are few issues but every year there is always that one parent. Even if you keep coaching after your daughter has finished playing the issues you have as a coach and playing time don't disappear especially if you have some parent assistant coaches.

jdcii, you are correct. EVERY position is important. Unfortunately, many don't see it that way and would rather have their daughter be the starting pitcher/shortstop and lose every weekend, instead of winning as the starting rightfielder on a different team.

I was lucky enough this season to have my other coach tell me every time I would try to correct my daughter that my tone was different. Then I noticed the same with him. So we decided he would correct my daughter and I would correct his, when ever we could hold back. I sure am proud of the kids. My daughter and I would not talk about softball after the game or practice unless she started it.

Situation is worst when the dd isnt one of the better , or BEST , player on the team . If the DD is a total studette there isnt much an issue . When the dd cant hit or run it's an issue . And all three pay for it -- team, coach and dd .

I'll know it's not a form of daddy ball when the coach cuts their non-stud kid, doesn't start a weak new club, and continues to coach that team with as great of a passion as if their kid were playing and had not been cut.

In the outfield, you usually only get one chance to make a difference in the game, you have to really be on your game at all times.

My outfielder loves playing where there is grass... She sees herself as the last line of defense for her team and takes that role pretty seriously.

I have posted this before, but my daugher played outfield as well. Outfielders have nobody to back them up. A game could be won or lost by 1 play made or missed in the outfield. She knows that every position is important, but many girls do not see this at younger ages. It took travel ball for my daughter to see it. She was a non believer at first thinking outfield was going to be boring, until the first travel tournament she ever played in and was in the outfield and was part of the winning out with her throw from left field to home plate for a tag out that would have tied the game, but instead ended with a 1 run victory at 11u.

Great Post! My dd got so fed-up with being a coaches daughter she went to another team and had a blast this year, and I don't think I'm going to get her back for next year either, but she is very happy.

And there you go, outfield is so important!
