I have no problem believing this happened. The things I have seen some girls go thru over the years is just stupid.

The life of a D1 softball player is not as glamorous as many probably think it is.

If this is even close to being verifiable by the investigators, it will end at least.a couple of careers.
why even think of doing something like that to your own player?
again, if they can prove this.
would put quite the black eye on MSU ' S program.....

Daboss ... I not only agree with 99% of your posts, I think most of them are great. But I'm a little baffled by the one here ... I mean I hope that you're right and that we don't have college softball coaches doing things like this, but I'm just a little surprised that you already jumped to the conclusion that the accuser "is a diva and needs to go away". I am all for innocent until proven guilty, and we've certainly only heard one side of the story at this point, but let's also not assume the accuser is guilty until proven innocent. I am sure there will be more info to come in the coming days ...

if she was a diva why would she wait till 4 games before the end of season to have issues with losing. Its not like the program has been winning a bunch lately. This program has been in need of a change for some time.

I am allowed to have an opinion and in no way is my opinion going to make a difference in the investigation or any actions taken. I am not close to Coach Joseph or her staff but I do know her and I'm very aware of the program. The success of the program in wins and losses hasn't been the talk of the country but amongst the college coaching world she is highly regarded. If it is within the charter of the NFCA, look for them to become publically supportive of Coach Joseph. while I agree there are 2 sides to this story, the coach in question has a proven record of over 20 years and a very high graduation rate and team GPA other programs marvel. Her personal interest in her players is her strong point, not a weakness. this fact is known across the country.

There are other active coaches out there if the same accusations were made I would question the program as I have heard others in group discussions at seminars and forum discussions by Internet mention things they have done or would do in the event of. Many of them would be confronted and others pointed out their concerns. Coach Joseph never appeared to be one of these people the only time I was ever around her. Hang me for sensing she's a good person in only 1 meeting but I do that at times. Somne times I can tell in just a few minutes of talking to a person they seem like an idiot. i don't shut it out but I have an opinion and it sticks with me. I think many do the same. it's only human nature.

Pitching high and inside to a lefty has been around since the slapper in our game. Nobody said it's fool proof as a tactic. We certainly don't want to hit them and give them a free pass. Take a chill pill. We have human beings throwing the ball and humans make mistakes. Especially young pitchers. We still teach them to "own their zone" when we instruct them. Many slappers get out over the plate due to the nature of the moving slap. Some umpires call it and others don't. Practice is just that. Pitching to hitters working on skills to get ready for game situations. A few batters may get hit but nobody ordered it! I hit a batter with a pitching machine pitch before. I didn't aim it at her. The stupid thing must have moved in the soft dirt or got bumped.

Hopefully, the truth will prevail. I simply hope a 20+ year coach doesn't lose her job if innocent because it's easier to do than stand behind her against the media. Still my opinion.

Daboss ... you are certainly entitled to your opinion, and you gained my respect with your opinions a long time ago, so please don't take my post the wrong way. I met Coach Joseph once myself, and I had a very good opinion of her as well. Still, good people sometimes make mistakes, and it's possible it happened here. I am sure she is also frustrated with the team's performance, and I'm sure a 4 year player saying what she did to the media (albeit supposedly being "off the record") would really be upsetting.

I too hope that the truth prevails and I hope both of our opinions of Coach Joseph is proven out.

Sorry, I've read the articles and with that as evidence this whole thing still looks bogus to me. Anyone on here ever talk about their players being able to "hit her" meaning as a hitter she can hit a pitcher? I have. So somebody 7 feet behind, 2 rows of seats behind, hears something of this nature, conversation may have changed, and he assumes they were talking smack about an individual. Give me a break. Nothing quoted by Coach Joseph in the texting transcript says anything specifically about hitting a players on purpose. They simply discussed the girl's reaction to being told she's sitting the game out. Let the drama continue but it sure seems suspicious that the DD's dad is now being mentioned. College coaches deal with exuberant parents just like travel ball coaches. In some cases, they may be getting the cream of the crop in that category. lol

It's just another way of saying their pitching is so bad that their coaches can't even throw strikes........:)

The team manager Ben Hayden heard her say it. It wasn't a player. They have issued search warrants to look at texts. If you read the police report, it sounds like they really did plan it. Why would a team manager lie about something like this?! I'm wondering was criminal charges could happen?! http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sp...-university/2015/06/15/msu-softball/28793475/ You can read the police report here.
