NSA states today girl throws the bat multiple time, only gets warning from ump he said there is no rule to cover other than a warning? What is the NSA rule?

Technically speaking all bats are thrown after the ball is hit, I can't speak for NSA but the only for rule in H.S. is NFHS 7-4-14 BATTER IS OUT -The batter throws her whole bat and interferes with a defensive player attempting a play.

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing too SLOW!

These bats bounced of the back stop, didn't interfere with any play. What about possible injury to catcher or ump.

NFHS has rule 3-6-3 which says "A team member shall not carelessly throw a bat." and the penalty is team warning and then the next offender is bench restricted. Does not specify an OUT unless it is a case like mentioned above in 7-4-14.

I can't find anything in NSA rules about it except a vague unsportsmanlike conduct clause which is umpires judgement. Even that won't result in an out, but could result in an ejection.

Perhaps Bretman can chime in with something more specific, although I think he has said he hasn't worked NSA in a while.

They just got warning after warning. We were wondering why warn them 20 times if there is no punishment??

Same as Klump, seen many warnings but never any out or player benched.

It's only an individual league implemented rule, just a playground myth otherwise as the intent stated in the original question. Other types of it such as stopping a batted ball type throwing of the bat is an out.

NSA follows ASA in regard to thrown bats. Not all thrown bats are treated equally!

You can have a carlessly discarded bat where the batter accidently let's go of her bat after a swing or tosses it with too much force. NSA and ASA provide no penalty for a carelessly discarded bat accidently thrown too hard or too far. Live ball, play on.

If any discarded bat interferes with a play, then it is interence, the ball is dead and the batter is out.

If a bat is purposely thrown, as in anger, then the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty can be applied- same as with any other thrown piece of equipment. Unsportsmanlike conduct may be punished by ejection- at the umpire's discretion- but no out is charged. The umpire may issue a warning if the infraction is judged minor.

For the situation in the first post, it sounds like the carelessly discarded bat rule would apply. An umpire could issue warnings just as a safety measure and maybe talk to the batter's coach to see if he could speak to the player. And that's about it.

The only other option would be to somehow judge the act as intentional, in which case he could eject the batter. Calling this intentional might be a stretch. That would kind of be a "last resort" ruling if this was judged dangerous enough. But it's not really what the rule is designed to address. Unsportsmanlike bat throwing is usually something like the batter heaving the because she was mad, struck out or made an out.

I have seen more flak about the players throwing equipment in the dugout than out on the field
