Does anyone know who the new Toledo Central Catholic High School softball coach will be since Mike Donnelly left to become the head football coach at Oregon Clay HS? Who are the candidates? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated!

Ty Foust

2 years as an asst. to Coach Arquette, then 2 years at a school in Central Ohio. I know he is young and a teacher. But, thats all I know about the new coach.

I do know, it should have been Coach Kujawa. If my kid went to that school I would be P.O'd. Thats not a knock on the new guy, Coach Norm, just did a great job at Central with its JV and should have gotten a shot as the Varsity coach.

Norm definitely should have been given the opportunity to be the head coach. He has done a great job with the JV program. He is a NFCA master coach. He has coached for tournament/travel teams and done very well. It seems like this should have been a no brainer? :-? :-?

I don't know Norm, but one would think he would be given the opportunity with credentials. Central is going to need all the help they can to turn around the program and get it moving in the right direction. I wish the new coach the best of luck.

Any program in the Toledo area, be it NLL, CL, etc, would be lucky to land a coach with his experience and credentials. It's too bad for Central Catholic. I still can't believe that they didn't even give him a chance. He turned their JV program around and could have done the same to the varsity program. I know last year Norm tried to get some clinic/camps going with the preschool kids, but couldn't get much help from the coaches and parents, or comitment from the kids. Now, who knows what will happen the high school program and the new coach's direction. I do not know anything about him, but Norm seemed like he would have been a good fit for this job. The new coach could work out, but why not stay with something that you know will work? Heat29 it does leave a big question mark for the Central program. 643dp he is a top notch coach and a great person. Uber, a bunch of people are scratching their heads on this decision.

Central wanted a coach who was also a teacher. I know both Ty and Norm. Norm is a 3 star NFCA master coach.... probably the only one in NW Ohio. There is no one more dedicated to coaching softball then Norm. The really sad thing is that CCHS did not even interview him. Giving him the courtesy of an interview would have been the right thing to do even if it was to tell him that they wanted a teacher/coach.
The last few years have been embarrassing for CCHS... if they were not embarrassed, I was for them. After 10 years of hard work to help to develop players in NW Ohio, it is disappointing to see the level of commitment from a school that always competed. You can't just talk that you want to have a competitive program, you have to take the steps to achieve it.
It would not surprise me to see CCHS's snub of Norm to be someone else's gift. There are openings every year for head coaching jobs.

OK... The NFCA (www.nfca.org) offers courses in softball..... everyone that completes the course receives a 1/2 star.....I believe that Stormin' Normin has completed 6 courses. These he took at his expense, both for the course and travel and lodging. Coaches that complete these coaches are called "Master Coaches"... hence, 3-star Master Coach.
Most of these courses are instructed by Hall of Fame or existing nationally known coaches.

Very long weekend courses!!!!!!! I have only been to one..... There's no reason for two of us to have so much knowledge in the same area about the same subjects.

Nothing stupid..... let's put it this way.... most of the coaches that attend these have been around for a long, long time. Obviously they feel that they help since they have the experience. There are also plenty of college coaches that attend too.
So... if you coach for 143 years, you may gain enough experience that you would learn at these courses. Trust me, the coach that thinks that he knows it all is done. Sometimes you learn things, sometimes it emphasizes things that we may have been letting slide and sometimes just meeting all of the other fine coaches that attend these courses are absolutely priceless.
