I guess I should wait to hear why the new guy quit, like I had said on Huddle its a tad personal for me. I felt a good coach got shafted and 2 greats kids I coached in grade school are there.

Has anyone heard any updates on why the central catholic coach left suddenly and who is going to replace him? ?Our dd will be going there next year so we have a vested interested in finding out what is happening. ?Please update as information becomes available. ?Thanks.

No word about the old coach..... I am hearing that CCHS want to continue the path that they took when they hired the last coach... find a teacher to coach softball. The position is not being offered to Norm. They are looking to hire a new teacher who knows what a softball is. Since this method worked sooooo well for them, obviously they want to continue doing the same old thing.
Norm has two offers for a coaching position.... and possibly a third coming. I believe that he will be making a decision any minute.
So, if you want stability in a coaching program... you may want to look elsewhere.

What fast2home says is true. I did express my interest in the head coaching position. I spent the last two years there and know the kids and parents well. I accomplished the goals set by the administration, last year under some trying circumstances, and believe had the respect of everyone associated with my team. I was told that CCHS prefers to fill the open teaching position with someone that knows softball (conversely, fill the softball position with a teacher); the same policy they had last year when they ousted Coach Donnelly and did not interview me.

I do very much appreciate the support shown to me on this board and others. It's really a nice feeling. Let's keep in mind that CCHS, like other schools and businesses, has their way of doing things, and though we in the peanut gallery may not agree, they believe it is in their best interests. As a softball coach and interested party, I'm not seeing where the kids benefit from this, but then I am not being asked to. Central Catholic is a good school filled with great kids and caring teachers and staff. I wish my former players nothing but the very best. They all have great futures ahead of them and will be great successes in life.

As for me, fast, what's my third option? I have been offered JV jobs at two very fine programs and I very much appreciate the patience they've shown while I pursued the CCHS job. I'll be making my decision shortly.

The sad thing is there are only about 5 weeks left, before everything gets started. I just hope they have someone in place or there will be many ticked off people. I would hate to see a rebuilding program suddenly just get dropped. What would happen if they find no internal coach??

The program won't get dropped. The administration has a plan. They'll either hire a teacher and hand the coach position to them or make the newly hired varsity assistant the interim head coach for this season and address the issue next year. The kids in that program deserve better and there should be people that are ticked off because the whole process was mismanaged. Can you imagine the outcry if this happened with the football and basketball teams? Then boosters would get involved and attention would be paid to the needs of the student-athletes and the future of the program. But since this is just softball...

Sorry for the suspense. Yesterday afternoon I accepted the JV position at Whitmer High School. Whitmer is where my kids went to school and played sports. It's my home district. I didn't know anything about Erie Mason so I don't know how that got started, but it's Whitmer. I did have an offer from a another great program, but with personal factors added in Whitmer makes the most sense. I look forward to working with Coach Figliomeni, the staff and players. Again, thanks for the tremendous support from the softball community with that other situation. See you at the ballpark!
