Really disappointed at what we saw today in an indoor game.
Opposing coach yelling, cursing, f-bombs towards ump and finally gets himself tossed. Not even 2 innings into the game, this coach says something else to the ump and the umpire says I'm calling this game, that's it.
I realize he was losing and not agreeing with some calls, (which weren't even questionable) but now you have 2 teams that get shutdown. Totally unfair to the kids that came to play. Nobody ever agrees with all of the ump ' s calls, but why would you need to go so far as to get your team called for a forfeit?
Oh well, there's always the hope that next week will be a full game!

Couldn't agree more.cobb. there were some very embarrassed players parents walking out of that place yesterday.
It's about the kids and teaching and having some fun. Not supposed to be about the what coaches perceive as being wronged.
it's a game for God's sake, go out and have some fun and learn a bit!

DYN-O-MITE...

I don't know why some people have to act this way. I knew a certain coach about 6-7 years ago who seemed to get tossed out of at least game per tournament. They feel they have to earn their A-hole Merit Badge. I wonder if - in their minds - they feel that if they get ejected, then the loss the team just experienced isn't his fault.?.

You may be onto something there Louuu. It takes them pretty quickly out of a situation they don't like, but then again only makes it look worse! Lmao

That's crazy, it's winter ball. Games are timed and they aren't long enough anyway, don't take more time from the kids that want to play by arguing with the ump. I have seen some calls that weren't the best but it's tough for one guy to see everything. Most of the plays I have seen were close ones at first or third, but deal with it.

I am one of the Tournament Directors for Aunt Rosie's and one of the reason we just didn't let a team in our 16U was we were warned that the Coach was very high strung and pretty much would get kicked out of at least one game if not more. We were told to grab a chair and popcorn and watch for the show or fireworks this coach would put on!
Our Umpires as far as we are concerned are our partners and they help us put on a good Tournament, they do not need to be abused like that!

Winter leagues for HS teams are not regulated by the school. The high school coach cannot coach if he/she has already used their 10 days of "out of season" coaching. Usually, the most that a HS coach could do is sit in the stands.;)

So, a person connected to the girls, not connected to the coaching staff, is doing the "coaching".

Now, with all that said, this person obviously doesn't "Get It". The purpose of the indoor leagues is to get repetitions, not winning hardware. But some people think that they have to argue with any umpire, in any setting.

People like that aren't and shouldn't be youth coaches. They're in it for the wrong reasons, they're teaching their players all the wrong things, and they certainly can't help their teams if they get thrown out or worse yet get the game called. I have coached somewhere north of 1,500 baseball and softball games over the years, and have never been thrown out (though I was warned a couple of times!). I can see a coach getting thrown out once or twice somewhere in their careers, but I know if I ever was, I'd be so embarrassed and ashamed of myself that I'd never let it happen again. I'm watching Monday night countdown as I write this and they're doing the "Come on, Man!" segment right now and I think that's pretty fitting here!

Why can't people accept that officiating in any sport is a valuable part of the experience and that sportsmanship, and respect should always be exercised. Specific to indoor, winter scrimmages... can't we recognize that umpires need to get in their practice to improve and become better in everything they do? Just like the players and coaches... they arent there for their own child...let them work, make mistakes, learn, improve. Gheeze!

Been coaching TB for what will be my 11th year, never been thrown out of a game. I've been warned a couple times and that's all it took, but certainly never came close in an indoor, which are glorified scrimmages.

Before we rush to judgment and speak publicly about this or any situation, we may want to acquire some background. I met this man a few seasons ago and know him to be a nice man who cares for his girls. On this day, he flat lost it. He readily admits it and is embarrassed. He has gone out of his way to apologize to me, my coaching partner and our girls. Not that he asked for or needs my defense, but there is personal history between him and the umpire in question. This and a questionable call lit a fuse.

And by the way, some kettles on this thread need to answer the phone. It's the pot calling.

once again, at some point anyone can lose their cool, I'm not too proud to admit that I too have lost my cool over .
Sometimes things that are said to your dd can get the hackles up.
