RUN RULE
12 IN 4TH
8 IN FIFTH

Played a game this weekend and was winning 14-0 we where the visitor the home team was at bat in the bottom of the 3rd. 3up - 3down. We go to bat in the top of the 4th, and the ump says hold on were gonna let them bat again and you guys are gonna stay in the field and that we would now become the home team so they could speed up the game, I was told that this is the rule, i mentiomed that it is a Mens Slowpitch rule he said that it is used in fastpitch also at the ump's decision.when the TD arrives the other teams coach explains the ump's ruling and the TD tells him and myself that it is a rule the other coach tells the TD that this is not right the TD then says whatever and turns to me and says Coach go put another 10 runs on them. Can i get a ruling, has any other coach ever had an Ump try to use this "SO CALLED FASTPITCH RULE" I am baffled by the call and the TD'S response

Never seen that before. Not much worse than when umpires making up their own rules. I even had this once at the college level this year. It was cold out, about 38 degrees, and the base umpire told the other team's new pitcher she could take as many pitches as she liked. He didn't even bother to inform me or check with me.

After the girl took about 10 pitches I walked out to ask what was going on, especially since I was down to two pitchers and had one up and down in the bullpen on this long weekend. The ump told me the pitcher was "cold" and that he would do the same for my team. I told him I have a pitcher up and down in the bullpen and had I known we could take unlimited warmup pitches, I would have refrained from doing that. I then told him in a very calm and quiet voice that he was simply making up rules and he tossed me from the game.

I got a call the next day from his supervisor with an apology.

I have no idea what planet that is a rule on in girls fastpitch.

Maybe it was a tournament rule for that tournament.

What was described is known as the "Flip-Flop" rule used in some (not all) versions of slow pitch softball. It is intended as a time saving move in a blow out game.

I am not aware of ANY fastpitch sanctioning body that uses this. Possibly there is one out there I'm just not aware of. This also might have been a local rule for the tournament.

Re: The Tournament Director's response: Quite often, TD's are by no means rule experts. This is probably something a TD has never had to deal with. If the TD was POSITIVELY CERTAIN this was an actual playing rule, and his final answer was "Whatever...", then shame on the TD. I think that right there shows that the TD was no rules expert.

This was a 2011 USSSA WS Qualifier.

It is very important for TD's to get the appropriate umpires, not just umpires.

Well, it is also important for the TD to know the rules and to have a UIC who knows the rules. Crazy stuff.

Welcome to PT Park!!! One of the reasons our organization tries to avoid that venue. Facility is going way down hill, worst umpires, games on baseball diamonds, lousy bracket management, etc.

I have to admit the best thing for fastpitch softball would be to stay awayom any future tournament action.

Welcome to PT Park!!! One of the reasons our organization tries to avoid that venue. Facility is going way down hill, worst umpires, games on baseball diamonds, lousy bracket management, etc.

This is why I was asked by teams to give an alternative to the Cincy World Series that is held down at Pastime Park on July 23rd-24th.

A couple years ago, when I supplied some umpires there... there was a bracket management problem and the 14u on Sunday was sent to another park to play... but TD forgot to call the other Park to get the fields ready and 6 teams on Sunday morning in the consolation bracket had no where to play and I had six umpires with no games. Thank goodness, they knew it wasn't my fault.

I offered this alternative to the teams.. been hearing from mostly out of state teams wanting to come in for the event for the girls .. since I am sending the players and coaches to the Reds VS Atlanta game on Friday night free on me.. but then they look and see very few Ohio teams or local teams... so it makes them wonder as well.

Obviously, Goshen facilities is a nice facility and can take rain... what better place to be on a weekend.

This team I know well and I talked to the assistant and that was exactly the TD's response. How totally unacceptable and unprofessional! I have asked our coach to totally stay away from there.

Absolutely downhill, ridiculous umpiring and horrible restrooms. The guy who runs the place M tries to do a good job, just cannot seem to keep it tight. Good luck to them.
