Why is it that OHSSA creates rules/regulations that hurt our players? We already lack playing time due to the winter. OHSSA dictates you can't play during this time, you can't contact your Coach during this time frame. You can't do this, you can't do that. I am fed up. Other states let their girls play school. rec, travel at the same time with great SUCCESS. Have been to out of state tourneys where it may be our first of the season and teams from other states have already played 4 or more. Their team chemistry has been worked on year round and it shows on the field. So why does OHSSA make Ohio girls odds even worse? I think it's time for an OHSSA Overhaul!

It not just girls it is all sport teams. They all have to follow the same rules.

I don't mind the practice constraints when it comes to playing an in-season school sport. Face it, a decent school program will have the gals going at least five days a week already. Between school work, possibly having a job, and the school team, they need to have a minute to breathe. The rule I do not like is the four players from a school limit when it comes to playing club/travel sports. States that do not have this or similar type rules certainly have an unfair advantage. Not everyone has the time to travel or the money for the expenses. If girls that played at school could have unlimited access to play together, locally, at the travel/club level it would provide better travel time for parents/guardians, and would have a great possibllity of being lighter on the wallet for the parents, as well.

I am not an advocate for OHSAA but my DD lived through those years and I learned a lot during that time. I also started out with the same feelings. But after sitting back and thinking about those rules, I could see why they were invoked and I could see the opportunity for corruption from both sides if those rules are not intact.

Travel/AAU sports are different than scholastic sports. Scholastic sports is a time for your DD to enjoy playing team sports with other girls from their community. I have seen a higher spectator attendance at HS softball than at summer tournaments, especially if your HS team is fairly successful. They actually have a good chance of getting some media publicity playing HS sports than playing travel.

Just saying, there is good and bad to HS sports.

It really does keep the coaches in check regardless, with that said though there are coaches in other sports saying you will play with our team or else.......very delicate balance, so watch what you wish for.......

I'm not sure there will ever be a complete overhaul of the rules but at least they have relaxed the transfer rule so that kids that choose to switch schools without a bonafide move (or other exception) only have to sit out half a season for whatever sport they played a scrimmage/contest or game during their HS season. Prior to that, the kids had to sit out a complete year. Many of these kids only get 4 years to play a sport and I personally think it was unfair to have them loose an entire year.
