I was at Expressway all day yesterday watching my DD play (5 games). It is a great facility and the tournament was well run. In my opinion, it is the best "for profit park" in Southwest Ohio. Regarding the umpiring, there were calls here and there that I thought were bad. As usual, I voiced my opinion a couple of times from the stands. But the umpiring was no worse than at the other parks in town. I hope that Expressway continues to work on things like improved umpiring, (I make this comment about all parks) temp fences, and cooler rules ( I think you should be able to bring in as much water as you want. I have no issue with not allowing sports drinks, sodas etc). If they continue to tweak and improve. I can see the park drawing more teams and bigger tournaments. Thanks for a great day.

1st of all congratulations to John and the Doom. Bailey was awesome on the mound.

I thought the umpiring was fine, as bergy and others said it was no different than anywhere else. The fields are the best around and the park is well kept all around.
A big difference I noticed was that I saw at least 10-15 people carrying small coolers around. Me being one of them. I think expressway is well on their way to improving everything that has been brought up on the OFC threads. I'm looking very forward to coming back and playing at expressway next year. Hopefully some teams from up north will come down and play.
I remember 20-25 years ago when expressway would play slow pitch girls tournaments from Friday morning until late Sunday evening non-stop. I believe it was called the Smokey Baker back then. I see no reason why they can't make it back to that level.

I thought it was a good weekend of ball. There were some questionable strike zones, but you have to deal with that where ever you go. I didn't like the scheduling for the 12u, but I guess with only 3 teams there is no way around it. The Bandits 97 team had to play 4 games back to back and were gassed by the Championship game. Hats off to their girls and coaches.

Hey Rookie (Mike Craig): I think the point was made by others on here about umpiring other than myself. Yes, Expressway Park is a great park and fine facility. Always has been. Bobby and Betty always runs a great tournament and grounds crew is the best I have ever seen in many years in this game. But, most of all they care about the girls. If you knew Smokey Baker personally, he would have never left it in Bobby's hands when he passed from this Earth if he ever thought differently.
The problem is sharpness of the umpires .. really everywhere. You can't only umpire a few tournaments a year and be sharp. You just can't. Not in this day and age.

You might want to check with your State Umpire in Chief about registrations, Mike. I'm sure McNutt can indeed inform you that I am indeed sanctioned and probally that I am the longest serving umpire in Ohio with USSSA (25 years).

Your comment on here is probally about the dumbest comment ever made on a public forum. What you going to try to black ball me ?....lol... Good luck with that. I printed it out so I can forward to USSSA National Office... where I have friends that I have made over these past 25 years.... that aren't going to be happy with your comments to me.

Lesson 1: If you are trying to black ball me Mike... don't do it on a public forum for all to see and witness.

Lesson 2:

Mr. Craig & Mr. Cleaver,

Can you please take your bantering back and forth to a private forum. Although it is entertaining, it does nothing to promote girls fastpitch here in Ohio and it only takes away a great day of fastpitch at a nice park.

Thanks.

Hey Cleaver, READ above please. Get some class and take it elsewhere. PM him instead posting here (keep it private). You say it is all about the girls, what kind of example are you setting? Enough already.

I want to thank you all for playing at Expressway Park. As far as umpiring, it is hard to get umpires to come in and do so few a games so Eastside Umpires tried to use the umpires that were available that they thought would do the best job.

We are working with Mike Craig and a few others to improve umpiring in USSSA Fast Pitch in the future.

I really appreciate those who did participate. If those of you that are interested could give me an opinion on a date that would draw more teams maybe we could switch it up at little.

Betty - Expressway Park

I am pretty sure Fences will be coming for most of the USSSA Fastpitch tournaments in 2010. I will let you know a definite ASAP.

Once again A BIG THANKS TO ALL OF YOU.

Betty and Bob, love your park and your tournaments. Addition of fences will be awesome and we look forward to playing there next year.
