Walking tacos hit the big leagues

In the Hot Mustard section of the CNN/SI website, they have a link to the list of the Top 10 new concessions at MLB ballparks. Lo and behold, a version of the walking taco has made the list at #9, although they call it the "Walk a Taco".

9. Walk a Taco, Target Field, Minnesota: Despite their fans' demand that they deep fry a taco on a stick, the Twins concession folks have taken the easy way out and brought in local vendor El Burrito Mercado and their Walk A Taco instead. In following the other Midwestern tradition of putting savory food in cones, Walk A Taco is essentially a taco salad in a crispy cone-shaped flour tortilla. It sounds delicious but also a bit dangerous. I'd wait for that thing to cool down lest you bite right into a hot molten volcano of cheese.
Also, it's funny that these are called "Walk-a-Taco" since most of the Twins fans will be sitting on their behinds when they scarf them down.

The whole list can be found here:

We introduced walking tacos to my daughter's college team last spring. The girls loved them. However, this year we had walking tacos and fried chicken. The chicken won--it is a south thing.

Can't wait. That is our first tournament this year. Counting down the days to 5/7 and 5/8. What is the record for them consumed in one weekend?

There are no quantity discounts at Beavercreek--LOL!!

My wife says that on a typical 20 team event over Sat/Sunday that over 30 lbs of taco meat are consumed--that would equate to around 180 to 200 walking tacos. For the 40 team events, you could double that. I would estimate that over the years we have served over 10,000 WTs. And, i think we have been serving them longer than other places --at least in this part of Ohio. They got their start at one of our the very early Fall ball seasons.

I think Johnnies holds the all time record for # consumed one weekend--5 each day.
