Carly Brandon and Camie Shumaker battled last night in a duel for the ages ? and it's not over yet.
Brandon, a Watkins Memorial sophomore, and Shumaker, a Lancaster junior, matched near-flawless performances for 15 innings as their two teams now wait to finish. The Warriors (18-4) and visiting Golden Gales (16-7) were tied at 1 when their Division I second-round game was suspended for darkness. The two teams will continue at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Watkins. The game between the sixth-seeded Warriors and No. 13 Lancaster was the best of the second round on paper, and it lived up to its billing. The winner plays No. 12 New Albany in a district semifinal at 5 p.m. Monday at a site to be determined.
Shumaker allowed just an unearned run in the fourth inning. Right fielder Stacy Trenholm threw out Jessica Sargent at the plate to end the 13th inning to keep it going.
