To all involved,

Thanks for the great clinic & the chance to help out. It felt great to give back after what Howard/Crystl unlocked for us over 3 yrs ago now.

These clinics always result in me learning something new or reinforcing a particular teaching point. They are simply tremedous.

Youngest DD (11) also got her clinic baptism, which went well. Started her on the left side about 3 months ago, with the focus on the slap & drag. OBP immedately jumped significantly (I estimate a delta of approx. 0.150) for her coach/team, but I admit that estimate could be influenced by observing through "dad-colored glasses". But, now we're gonna start to blend in that line drive swing.

Final Columbus (Westerville) clinic dates are set for 2/28 & 3/1 at Westerville Central High School. More details on separate post. (Bear - if you can add link here to the clinic announcement that would be great).

Wow, what a great weekend! For those who don't know what Crystl and Jenny had to go through just to get here....I got a call Friday night at 7:00 pm that their flight from Cleveland to Dayton was canceled. They could wait until Sat morning but would not get her before the clinic started. They got a car and drove through rain and fog and finally got into town around 1:00 am. With nothing but the clothes they wore on the plane they tried to find something at Wal-Mart and anyone who was there Saturday knows Jenny didn't have much success. Though she spent the day pulling up and trying to tie her sweats up she still did a great job working with the girls.

The Bustos Ultimates and Kings High School parents and players are always great to work with. Tricia and Charles are always there keeping up with things and Cherise again kept things together. A few more clinics and you just might whip swobat into "softball shape" as long as you don't try to get Mo to do the paper-lol

It was great to see how much fun the girls had with all the coaches. Everyone who works to put these together appreciate all the time you take away from doing other things to be there. Tim, let Brit know that she did a great job with the girls. Looks like some of your influence is rubbing off on her.

Howard, without you none of this would happen. Your dedication to the girls and the sport is something everyone should have, but we are the ones lucky enough to get. It was great to walk around at some of the stations run by your older girls and watch and hear them teaching what they have learned from you. And when Kayla said-now I know what Howard is talking about when he says pay it forward and it does feel good to be able to do it-that makes it all worth it. You have had an impact on not only the way they work on the field but also the way they think off the field.

Looking forward to the next clinic in Feb with Kirk and his group!

I have enjoyed this forum for years. I wanted to clarify a few statements that are made on this thread. Patty Amrein is the individual who first started bringing Crystl Bustos to the Cincinatti area for clinics. At first Patty had Coach Michael Bastian in for clinics and to run an exposure camp at her tournaments. Coach Bastian coached at The Ohio State University and was the Head Coach of The Akron Racers. It was in Akron where Coach Bastian first met Crystl Bustos. And under his leadership she was first named to the USA Womens National Softball Team. Coach Bastian and Patty Amrein first brought Crystl Bustos to Cincinatti for clinics. And Coach Bastian and Steve Stigler introduced Howard Carrier to Crystl.

The Canadian and Australian National Teams have been using elite softball hitting mechanics for many years. Japan and China have been introduced to these skills also. This elite information is nothing new to these National Teams.

Crystl and Howard create some of the best clinics in the country. I personally miss Patty and Coach Bastian at these clinics!

Patty and Coach Bastian were both at the October clinic. Patty's husband and daughter were at this past clinic, as well as the one in October.

I was introduced to CB and Mike by Steve and Scott Lawson Jan. 22, 2002. We then started doing clinics together and when Mike took over the Chinese National Softball Team he invited me to help and he was not available to do clinics because of schedule conflicts and distance. He was just here in Oct. for our clinic and we were together at the WCWS in June sorry you missed him. Patty also stopped by to say hello to everyone also. We also all had breakfast to plan the Busto's Blast in May and how CB would be able to spend a little more time with us because she will be playing for the Racers this year.

If I know who you are I can put you in touch with him as he may be visiting in the very near future and is in Reno now. PM me.

I think you can see the difference in Australia and Canada's approach to hitting especially after 2004 and Mike and I have talked about it a lot! Review the films from 2004 and then compare to 2008 and you will see more of a flow to toe touch verses step and stop and or re step in my opinion or at least we did and we reviewed a lot of film.

After the Olympic games he had full field his contract with the Chinese and has been doing clinics in Dallas, Birmingham, Netherlands with Monti, Vienna and the Czech Republic for the ISF and he has expressed an interest with doing clinics with us again and on his own with the Fast Pitch School which he owns along with the introduction of the WhipHit.
