Who is signing up and sending full payment now? Why would you? Last year, we, along with more than a few teams had to pull out of ASA State due to the stupid 'already have a berth? you can't play' rule ASA Ohio has in place.
What that means to teams wanting to get in now is that you have to send $425 in to the state tourney and money to a 'backup' tourney in case you qualify for a national tourney before state. How stupid is that?
I sent in $200 to the ASA State 14u TD, but really I probably should have just held off and waited until June to decide - with the 'rule' in place, they shouldn't fill the tourney - spots will be open to the last week. As a TD that ****s and is not fair to them after they bid for the berths with ASA Ohio. Last year, we had to scramble to find a backup tourney to play in - one not nearly as strong as ASA State would have been - although it watered down as at least 3 top team 12u teams had to pull out. The 12u team that won didn't even go to ASA USA Nat's .. I wonder how many 'state' winners at the various age groups last year did not take the berth? That is an embarasement to ASA Ohio that their State champs did not even take the berth earned.
Well, I have vented .. it cost us a few good teams in the Metro, thankfully, it is in early June and most teams are not affected... So, what is everyone else doing? What is your 'backup' tourney plan?
