What player is more valuable to a team.

My dd doesn't have to make the move to 43 until next year, but has been throwing 43 in lessons. I, after watching her, think she throws harder and better from 43 feet. Time will tell when she is actually throwing to batters at that distance, but for now it doesn't seem to have hurt her at all.

As far as pitchers being the most important, I think the team as a whole better be good the older they get! I have seen teams this year with great pitching, but not so good defense. All of a sudden the other players become more important.

Its really not that the pitchers get worse at 43', the hitters get better, pitchers that rely on speed to be effect wont be as nearly as effective. There are far more pitchers that rely on their speed, then pitchers and parents want to admit....of course this is just IMO lol

I know I made it sound like She relies on speed, but fastballs don't get thrown very often. She is mainly a junk ball pitcher, but the 3 extra feet didnt' really effect the movement pitches either. You are right that the hitters are better the older she gets.

Once again, you can have a stud pitcher that can strike everyone out but if you do not have a catcher that can catch those third strikes, then having the good pitcher is pointless.

I would disagree with most of you. If that great pitcher has no one to catch her, its makes her average at best. A good catcher can erase mistakes made by the pitcher.

great hitters have away of erasing those mistakes also , like the ball never making it to the catcher because it lands 250 ft away. MD

TRIPLETHREAT says it all. If you are a player that is 1 dimensional player, you are hurting them somewhere. Today, players NEED to develop triple threat skills especially if they want to play college ball, even if you are that STUDD pitcher that can't field or hit although that kid will get more opportunities then any other single dimensional player.

Take 2 great teams with great pitchers, let them play 10 games , I'm wondering how many would end 1-0 with the only run coming on a defensive error ?

Another take on this. It really isn't the position but an individual(s). I have seen good teams struggle when a certain player is not in the line-up. This individual could be any kid on your team that all of the girls seem to look to for inspiration or guidance.

Just got a quote from an 18 year old that learned the game well. Gahanna over Groveport 2-1. Emma (groveport) was the better pitcher, but Gahanna was the better team. I think that sums it up in a statement. We were at practice so I missed it, but I bet that was a good game in 8 innings.......

I think the well rounded player is the best asset a team can have. Stud pitchers are getting harder to find. The sport is changing. Offense is becoming more dominant, just watch college ball. The day of the 1-0 win is becoming a thing of the past. A strong defense is key. I've watched quite a few college games this spring and the defense has been average, at best. The weakest positions seem to be in the outfield. An outfielder who knows the angles and can make the play can stop the best hitter, as can a good infield. Give me defense all the way.

Well they didn't!!! So it is pitcher!!! Get it right Spartan.

The pitcher definitely has a big impact on the game, defense can`t be a factor if pitcher is walking everone, catcher can`t impact that either. A stud pitcher can`t win a game either with out the help of the rest of the team helping on defense or helping on offense, ( like a big hitter ), or with a catcher that can`t catch her. I`m going with Klump and Bodacious on this, the team as a whole makes a winning or losing effort, but the pitcher does have the biggest impact as far as an individual.

Well, if tryouts are to be believed the answer to the question is obviously the pitcher. I've seen any number of well-rounded players blend into the crowd at tryouts and go completely ignored. On the other hand pitchers always get attention at tryouts even if they didn't do anything else well. Pitchers can miss every ball hit to them and swing and miss at every pitch but if they are great pitchers they will still get the offer. Of course power hitters also get a lot of attention at tryouts but even they take a back seat to pitchers because a power hitter will only bat a few times a game and can only do so much damage. Pitchers are in the circle facing every batter of the game.

True to a point, but many tryouts are so focused on the pitcher they forget to watch the catcher. Then when they get that stud pitcher to sign, they do not have a good enough catcher to catch her so the point of having that stud pitcher is moot because the other team is circling the bases on steals, past balls, and uncaught third strikes.

This post keeps coming up under different approaches. But the bottom line is this. All teams build around the PITCHER. My DD is a starting catcher for her HS and calls all games.

BUT At the end of the game no matter how far they go, no matter how easy or hard it was to beat the other team. The Pitcher will always get the props. I don't care what a coah tells ya, they always build around the Pitchers.

So that should answer the question who is most important.
Doesn't mean its right or correct,

Its just the way it is ............ :lmao:
