I anticipate that the Stingrays tourney will have quite a few coaches and that GAPSS will run third behind Compuware and Stingrays in that category.

By far, the most coaches I saw at one tournament was Best of the Best in Massillon. There may have been more coaches at other tournaments, but because all the games were played at the same time at four fields that could all be seen at the same time, there were a lot more coaches seeing each game at Best of the Best.

We also saw a lot of coaches at Compuware. However, not as many attended individual games as I saw at Best of the Best. Oh, I also saw a coach leave a game because she was sitting in the stands, and the fans began ringing cow bells.

At Sluggerfest, my husband's 16U team saw several coaches at games, but we did not see as many at the 18U games. My husband also had coaches at Westerville Warcats and the ASA B State tournament in Strongsville.

Please note that there are four girls on my husband's team that are in regular contact with college coaches. They are probably getting the exposure more because of their emails and letters to the coaches.

Have the recruiting rules for DIII changed? Because it was my understanding that DIII coaches, with limited exceptions relating to clinics, etc. etc., cannot initiate face to face contact until the summer after the girl's junior year.

Coach Tig:

That's what I thought, that the limitations on face-to-face contact apply in all divisions of the NCAA. We need to be careful that OFC isn't the source of wrong information on that score.

There was a nice representation this weekend at GAPSS for both 16U and 18U. I saw quite a few Friday night at 16U, and there were several at every bracket game I watched or walked by at the 18U on Saturday.

Besides Best of the Best, I saw more coaches here than in the other large showcase tournaments we attended this summer.

I was in Ann Arbor this past week and had the opprotunity to talk with Bonnie Tholl, Associate Head Coach at Michigan and she told me that they and probally most D1 schools scout ASA events. And contact by the University cannot be initiated until after Sept. 1st the girls junior year but schools can unofficially and sometimes do watch girls well prior to this.
