What will you do when she hangs her Glove?

The day coming, its right around the corner. The day when your sweet, beauty, baby girl, who won your Heart the very 1st time you seen her, just like her Mother did.

She's made you smile, laugh and maybe even cry, as you watch her blossom into a Young Lady.

What will Daddy and Mommy do?

When she says, I'm done playing Softball, its time for me to move on dad & mom!

I would respect her decision. It's her game, not mine. I'd be lying though, if I said there wouldn't be a sense of loss felt. Softball has been such a big part of our lives....the money, the traveling, the lessons, the hours of sitting on the bucket, the heartbreaks, the accomplishments, the lack of vacations, the relationships formed, the whole softball society.... I wouldn't change any of it!

We all know it is going to happen. All, we, as parents, can do is hope that the other things learned from the game that "we" all love has taught our daughters more about life than any sport could teach them. That they learned how to be a good teammate, friend, good listener, jokester, or whatever they picked up from playing softball. But, atop all other that they enjoyed it....they enjoyed the ride! No matter what the outcome, those of us who are parents, coaches, mentors, catchers, we know we will have enjoyed every minute of it! There is always an organization looking for an 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U coach. Is does not have to be your own daughter, or in my case daughters, that you pass on the love of the game to. It is contagious...and we all know it!

Well said!!! Lord willing and my body holds together, I plan to keep on coaching in my organization (Freedom Elite) or somewhere. I look forward to the day when my DDs decide to coach and hopefully they will permit me to be their assistant. Not sure what age I want to "start over" at, many of my peers say 10u to instill "their" way of playing, but honestly I enjoy the game more at the higher levels. Man plans and God laughs, so who knows?

Coach winter ball with her, keep active on the TSZ forum, become a host on a TSZ radio show, help her do stats for the college team she is coaching, announce at their home games, catch a few travel games during the summer, and help current coaches with wristband signal systems! :)

P.S. But I still miss watching her play :(

Oldest DD is a sophomore in college this year... 3 more seasons until she is done which is sad to think about already! Fortunately the youngest DD wants to follow in her foot steps. Hopefully it will be another 11 years before I have to think about the last one hanging up her glove. Guess I'll have to cross that bridge when I get there, but hard to see not wanting to stay involved in the game somehow!

I imagine that she and I may coach one of the Emerald Necklace teams in the area. But I can't imagine her being done playing, even if it's slowpitch eventually.

I will cry like a big baby. But I will give back to the community any way I can to help softball families.

Jeff,
Don't forget to catch a weekend of one of your former players games at your 3rd annual weekend catch up with the Riffle's. When I get our schedule for the 2015 season I will send it to you.

Andrew.

Start with the next generation! Yeah she's only two months, but lots of time to break her into being a slapper!

Step 1. Cry.
Step 2. Become her assistant coach when it is time for her to give back to this game.

There was a very emotional country song by Clay Walker that had a line that went something like "Don't let the chain of love end with you.".
Keep the chain going.
