I just found out this week that my little nugget isn't going to get to play in the Spano Dome Spring League because there aren't enough teams signed up. What the heck?!? Where are all the 10u teams? At this age, the more reps and more time on the field the better. This is the time to foster the love of the game, get them out and playing and having fun. Come on 10u's!!!!

I think it has two reasons. First is the economy and lack of disposable income by many. As we all know on here this is a very expensive hobby, sport, game whatever you want to call it. And second I think kids are getting lazy and have more and more distractions pulling them away from the game. I never had internet, and video games and cell phones, and facebook but they do. That I think is the problems our sport is going to have to overcome.

I'm with you...

Our team was one of the three signed up and paid. We have been kicking ideas around for what to do with our weekends this spring! Last year was great...Pouring outside JV and Varsity games cancelled and our 10us were playing more games than them! =)~

Super competition last year too.

Remember who is raising those kids. If you have kids and you think that is a problem then you have the power to fix it. Each time I hear my generation talk about the younger generation I ask "Who do you think is raising that generation?" The answer is "We are".

I think a weekend friendly with 7-8 teams would be great. A mini tournament sort of format.

WM.... I wasn't talking about my kids they play all sports available to them and some of them at a very high level. But they also have chores and other responsibilities that they must get done as there is no free ride. I was talking about some of the kids that I know in the area that have decided that their priorities will be some of the things that we did not have available and I'm sure others have seen kids making these same decisions.

The same thing happened with our orginazations 10u team in our area. The facility gave them the option of playing up in the 12U division or to return their fee. They elected to play up so the girls could at least get in some reps. We were puzzled why this happened since they typically have a great deal of interest when putting on indoor events. The only thing that makes sense is the weak economy.

Our 12u team this spring/summer will do less tournaments that require hotel stays for the same reason. Some parents don't have the extra cash right now, which I can completely understand. In talking with some other coaches they are electing to do the same thing to keep costs down for their parents. Hopefully, this will change soon. Their are a lot of good people that are really having a tough time making ends meet.
