?Which is worse?

I think this is a question that unique to northwest Ohioans. ?Which is worse for the players and which for the parents?---the severe cold in the early Spring games, or the extreme heat and humidity of Summer tournaments? ?I have found as a parent that the cold is worse for me (sitting on the sidelines), but the dd suffers more in the brutal temps of July/August. :p

Cold by far. Maybe mother nature will be nice to us this year for HS ball. I really enjoyed coaching first base last year in March in a scrimmage when it started snowing. :( :(

I think at the beginning of last springs games I was the only one in the crowd who was actually warm but I probally looked out of place wearing my deer hunting clothes as this wasn't southeast Ohio. I could have made a fortune hawking hand warmer packets. Also the cold isn't that great for composite bats either.

What's worse is the antagonizing wait for HS ball to end so travel ball can start. But that's just me (I'm sorry) and I know that no other parents feel this way??? I'm getting therapy to help me deal with this issue. I've made it past the first step of therapy by admitting I shouldn't feel this way!

I think it is the cold by far, for both parents, coaches and players. ?Players may not like the heat and humidity of summer, but I am quite certain they have less injuries from pulled muscles, strains and sprains. ?The cold weather makes it harder for the players to keep loose, relaxed and warm. ?The summer heat and humidity can cause some problems, with heat exhaustion and ect, but with a little foresight and planning it can be kept non exisitant or to the very minimum.

As a parent and a coach, I would much rather be sweating than to be shivering and numb from the cold. ?However, I am prejudice since I hate cold weather anyway. ?

Just my 2 cents. ?

It's all in your mind -- It is always shorts weather -spring or summer- ;)
I would think that cold weather has more effect on the players and their performance.Let's hope that spring comes early and about 10-15 degrees warmer this year.I was just looking at Charleston,Sc weather - sure will be nice to be there in about a month watching softball by the ocean!

Good luck to all this spring!

Handwarmers are definitely a must for the players and the fans. ?We learned that the hard way. ?Her HS freshman year pitching against Delaware Hayes, DD couldn't feel the seams, which is a bit of a problem when your style emphasizes movement over speed. :(

I would have to agree with the majority. Cold weather is much worse. Although my daughter said that Under Armor has made it at least tolerable. Regardless softball is good in any weather. :)

I don't think the question is unieque to Northwest Ohio. It is the cold in all of Ohio in March, and I would take the heat of summer any day!!!

Bink44---you are correct, this is a question that could have applied to any northern state (my bad). ::) ? And I think my little survey shows clearly that the cold is our greatest nemesis up here! ?Good suggestions re: hunter's hand warmers, etc. ?Do they work if you stuff them in the toes of your boots, are is there something else you can use? :)

Blink,
They actually make a product that fits in your shoes. They are called toe warmers and they are cut to fit in your shoe.
