Why do coaches call a player back for a 2nd tryout

Luckily we can usually fill our teams within 1 or 2 tryouts. Of course there are so many new teams and organizations that it keeps getting harder.

Thankfully there are all those new teams. It was odd for my dd this tryout season. Things could have been handled better by dd's previous team, added to the fact that we weren't looking out for #1 through the process. As a result, we were scrambling at the end of August looking for a team for our dd.

One of the things we noticed, during that mad scramble, was that it was mostly the established organizations that were looking the longest for players. Was it by design? I wonder, or were they being very judicious in making the final selections?

I know it took two tryouts, several acts of God and some job relocations to create the space on the team we had hoped our dd would be selected for. And after that, there were couple of very talented girls who were added to the team later when other spots opened up.

I have become a believer in things WILL work out. The team your dd needs will need her, when the time is right. You just have to have faith, and be ready for the opportunity.

There's a recurring dialogue in the movie "Shakespeare in Love" that I kept repeating to myself in August and September:
"Things will work out in the end."
"But HOW will they work out?"
"I don't know, it's a mystery."

we typically know we are going to offer a spot within about 10 seconds of her fielding and hitting...

call backs occur when we have to find a reason to not bring her back. Less cold deciphering... when there are more than one fighting for the same roster spot. Had that this year.

If they don't get an offer and choose to come back, that's up to them.

As others have stated, the sorting/weeding out process begins with attitude, focus, listening ability, and of course parents.

And I also agree that not all coaches have a "2nd tryout request" unless it's absolutely necessary. I don't want to string anyone along nor do I think we are to stop them from accepting elsewhere.
