Ok you are about to get run ruled in 10u, you are on the field the hitter puts one over the fence! On her way to home girls give her high fives! So you challenge the home run to the umps (being assisted to the base) and they call the girl out!

Come on?

10u give the girl credit, this really happened this past weekend!

Really

Stupid umpires, stupid egotistical coach, neither one knowing the rules, and yet another 10-12u drama. Name the team and coach, humiliate them into submission.

In 10U?

Seriously??

I think that the protesting coach should be banned from the sport for life...and probably publicly humiliated on the way out.

And the umpire that negated the HR should be forced to be an Assistant Coach of an aspiring 8U team for one year.

It sounds like the coach was roped in to the appeal by another REAL HONEST COACH

I'll give the coach the benefit of the doubt. Instead of "dishonest" (which implies some willful lack of integrity and character), maybe he's just ignorant of the real rule and really thought there was a rule violation. It's a common misconception.

For the umpires...if you really think a rule has been broken, then call it when you see it. Don't wait for a coach to talk you into it. That just looks bad all the way around.

I agree an umpire should never be talked into calling something they don't know for certain to be a rule. OTOH, they should correct their call - or non-call - if a coach reminds them of the correct application of the rules.

I was looking around a certain Orgs website and did not see a "Mission Statement". Prob a good time to write one and if Rolling Bats, Win at All Costs, and Lies are consistent with the overall approach....Play Ball!

Coaching 101 know the rules...Umpiring 101 know the rules...

Sounds like it may be a situation with newbe Coaches and Umpires that resulted in a disaster day for a young lady and her team and at 8-10U I can see it happening...

Over the years we have faced a few that would try to gain an advantage within the rules or just outside of the spirit of the rule...There was a coach who we played against for 8+ years that would stop games on a regular basis over pitching, phantom crow hops, or just to question the umpire zone. Seemed like no matter where we would go around the country they were there.
At 10or12U the she was complaining that the pitchers were outside of the pitching lane...At an 18U a few years back I heard her from another field and she was still complaining about a pitcher outside of the pitching lane...
Like in life there are going to be people trying to get in your head and some coaches take it to the extream...Hopefully; the coach in question and umpire learned a lesson they will not repete..

This was the guy that started the 10u throwing 55 thread as well. Threw my kid under the bus and had a bunch of people calling us liars! Admitted that someone just said she was fast and made up a number!!

Are you sure it was throwing 55 or just two high fives?

Make it about the kids. Push them but let them have fun at this age and It don't sound like this guy wants anyone but him to have fun ( at all cost) even if it's a 10 year old girl!
