As for the date of Jan 1st being the cut-off date...you have to have a standard some where. Most all sanctions state that whatever your age is on January 1st is the lowest age group that you are allowed to participate in.
I don't know which team you are referencing, but teams like the Slammers, Laser Red, Stingrays, and others try to stick to having all of the girls with the same birthyear. There are exceptions.
But to compete at the 14U National level, it helps if the girls are as old as the rules allow. The Slammers did well last year as a younger 14U team. They will be awesome this year as an older 14U team.
You will not find the Slammers in a lot of 14U tournaments trophy hunting. They will be playing up getting the stiffest competition they can find so that they can get ready for the USA/ASA Nationals. They played up alot last year as younger 14s and did well. The Ohio Nightmare, a 16U team, also played up when they were 14U and did well. You will see a lot of 16U teams playing up in 18U this year. These teams don't care about trophies. It is all about successfully competing at a very high level.

these polls are pretty much garbage and not good for much else than to give us something to argue about i put little stock in them we all have a good idea of who is good when you are talking of the top 2 or 3 but after that it is more politics and guesswork than an actual poll.are all of these polls like this or is there some formula once the season starts because if there is not then it is not worth the time i just took to type this lol

Each coach that votes will submit his top ten every week. There's your formula. Each vote for a team get the corresponding number of points. 1=10, 2=9, and on down. TheRinger tallies them and posts the results every week.
PS, you're absolutely right. They don't mean a whole lot. Just a way for people to either recognize teams or stir the pot.

I can only comment on what my daughter and her friends saw and said about what other teams and coaches at the Akron Showcase this fall said about the Slammers. I don't even have a daughter in that age group and I am just excited as **** to get a chance to see them play. When and where do the Slammers play next anyone know??

Just for the record, almost half the slammers team is 13u, with two of those being 7th graders that start. So, anyone thinking this is a top heavy 94 team, that is not the case.

This is my mea culpa.
For the record, I want to say that I know that the Red are going to be a strong team this year. I'm sure that they will finish in the top 5 in Ohio and probably do some damage in ASA nationals. I know a lot of the people from this team and they are good people and so are their kids. I was just trying to get a rise out of sbone, get some action going and stir the pot a little bit. I certainly didn't mean any harm, and wasn't trying to get anyone upset.
I want to apologize to:
Dumbbucket, sbone, LG, BL, ST, MM, BF, and the rest of the girls on the team that I don't personally know. I know that I was being a jackass. I hope that you can accept my apology.

This is why only coaches vote. I can say all of them they voted with honesty and integrity last year. When the pre-season poll is released I'm sure the L-Red will be right there where they should be. The coaches know what is going on. The Tigerlillies from last year came out of no where and got the recognition they deserved with their play on the field. This is just a way to give some deserving teams some props. Relax.

This is about fun, exposure, promotion, and recognition mostly. For some it will get personal, and maybe it will inspire some to make a statement (on the field)?
As a fan of these polls, I will also say that I learned about a lot of "other" teams from other parts of the state that we didn't play, that were VERY good. In turn, I made a point to watch for them, and learned about some other teams and players (is that bad?).
This is fun for the "fans", in addition to players, coaches & parents.
It's all good, keep it fun!
P.S. - Lasers Red will be very good - anyone that knows any of those families knows how hard they work, their "togetherness" & focus, and their commitment to goals. They will be fun to watch, as they usually are. Good luck to them.
