Wow. I got nominated ? Thank you Triplethreat... that was nice of you.

Best TD in the state should cover what they do as a whole.... communication and deliver of the tournament through thick and thin.

As for best TD with a location = I'd say Bob and Betty Owens of Expressway Park, Milford. For the girls, knowledge of what it takes to run an event, personnel, fields that can take rain and bounce back up. Expressway is the one.

Best ran event I ever attended in all of my life = Outcast Tournament - Dayton, Ohio

(Bob, I stole some of your ideas...lol I like the "if you throw out a parent - the coach goes too")... Allows the game to be played by the girls and coached by the coaches. Parents are quiet and root their daughters on . Best rule EVER placed by any tournament director into tournament doctrine.

But, I'd have to give the nod to Ricky Moorehead and his three major events...Independence Blowout, Jamboree, and now the Rec World Series.

Innovative, thinks outside the box, plays through thick or thin or losing money. Tries to category the teams based on their talent to stop blowouts. (This is what some TD's need to do when holding an event - go to two divisions) Never in my life been to a tournament where the PARENTS are dancing in between innings (See 2009 Rec League / Youth League World Series). Gave out a better prizes than me...lol... Championship Rings.... Money raised through his events go back into the OFC and the girls of Ohio, etc.. benefit from his hard work and time.

Best TD from an umpire's standpoint (mine and others): ANY and ALL Ohio Hawks events. Good umpires are breaking their neck to be able to umpire their events.

Imagine, if "pacaba_coach" pulls off a great tourney next year at NEW - Lasers Akadema Showcase, he just might make the 2010 Nominee list... ^_^! That Tourney is really shaping up.

Best of the Best up North is ran very well. I hear that from some of the umpires I use from up there.

This is good. I'm learning who the people are that put these tourneys on. Never even thought about it. I just show up and watch and bltch about whats wrong like no walking tacos or m&m's or only one ump (WTF with 1 ump?). If there is not much to bltch about I just enjoy the game and think of things to tell my DD she did wrong on the way home. It works for us.

But a big SALUTE to all the TD's for what you do, even the ones I've ripped.
OH and the ump's too, right Tim.

Expressway TD is the owners of the park. I'm sure Lester will second my nomination and he will have their name. Bowens maybe.

Yes, in our area... Bob and Betty Ownens do a fine job at Expressway and I would back them. Fields are always ready and they communicate as expected and have solid turnouts year after year. Yeah... OFC handle is bowens2.

Although Rookies in 2009... I would also nominate Derek and Doug with the Ohio Hawks for how well they ran the O.H.F.A. at the end of 2009 summer season. If they sustain that type of tournament coordination.... they will become a "must attend". Nice job to those guys.

Soooo I should not add NSA States or Ashland TD.... Thinking I need to now as they've been mentioned. Probably how some of our Politicians get elected by NAME RECOGNITION, but at the booth nobody remembers what they did.. but because there name is out there, they sometimes get elected. haha

No Seriously though, I don't want to pick scabs as this OFC Poll is TRULY a salute to our TDs that are getting it done right.

BTW, does MOST SARCASTIC POSTER stand alone as an OFC Fan Poll, or would that fall under a larger class of Poll like (Most Entertaining... or Biggest Bummer, or something else... ) Definately think we need to explore these as potential Annual Award Recognition if we think there is enough nominees, but then again, would be be fueling Wigman and DaddyDice to return to old form??????^_^!

****, I think I just Hi-Jacked my own thread... Coop, is there a 12 step for this...lol.

I am admittedly a little biased, but I have seen many tournaments over the years, and still think Todd Harbaugh and the Parma Wildcats put on one of the best. Todd has worked year round for going on 3 years now to make this tournament a success. It is one of the few tournaments we go to every year that does not try and nickle dime you to death with mandatory consessions, and parking fees. One vote Todd Harbaugh.:D

My umpires are "Musty Approved" umpires. Was the first time I EVER heard him say something nice about umpires...lol when he called my umpire group "very good"..... in a tournament thread from Pastime Park tournament

Food for thought:

LESTER is on a roll again, as he put this list of Tourney Good/Bad items over the last couple years from parent, org, and his own feedback and shared with me earlier tonight via PM, but thought this would be good to put out here on this post to aide others in their nominations and also stimulate replies as I'm sure depending on Team Age, Goals, Org, Families and a variety of other variables there are many other Good/Bad items that could be listed related to TOURNAMENTS.

Here's Lester's - TOURNEY NAUGHTY & NICE LIST:

Keys to a successful/bad tournament for the younger ages (don?t want to speak for the needs of older teams cause they are similar in the basic ways but waaay different on so many others).

Many factors go into whether or not an experience is good or bad for a tournament. Most of which have nothing to do with wins/losses. Here's my quick snap shot of the Likes and Dislikes:

The TD NICE List:
1) Good communication boards (well labeled ?command center?)
2) Easy check-in
3) Walkie talkie score reporting to the communication board
4) One-call system with updates
5) Strong umpire crew
6) Solid Marketing and drawing good teams early on
7) Posting who is in the tournament early on
8) Quick responses to tourney questions when asking the TD
9) Staying on time all day (excluding weather)
10) Constant weather updates
11) Fields in great shape, lined each game. Dragged several times a day
12) Play area for lil ones
13) Strong concession stand with reasonable prices
14) Well thought out game schedules? times, locations, etc
15) Solid Vendor selection
16) Allow players to bring drinks in
17) Good warm up areas

The TD NAUGHTY list:
1) Bad restrooms
2) poor parking
3) no shade and/or not allowing pop-up tents
4) no grilling out, no coolers
5) no communication
6) little to no dialect leading up to the tournament
7) late posting of scheduled game times
8) multiple adjustments to the field locations/times
9) poorly marked fields
10) inconsistent umpiring
11) poor field conditions (outside of weather)
12) bad pitcher?s rubber (holes)
13) bad batters boxes
14) limited foul ball netting
15) poor bleachers
16) trash cans full or non-existent
17) Poor teams or incompatible competition (not always controllable I know)
18) no warm-up locations or limited
19) back to back games all day? need some time to recoup
20) game times 5hrs apart L
21) back to back games? all on different fields

OK.... Poll is now available with 10 of the 13 Nominees provided.

Three nominees were disqualified as two were presented without a NAME, and my attempts to identify TD for those Tourney/Events were unsuccessful for Orrville fire in the sky and Outcast Tournament in Dayton. Third nominee not making poll was personally removed due to much conflict on Tourney Thread regarding numerous complaints about that particular tournament this past year and the Poll only allows 10 nominees, so that seemed most fair as to how to reduce to 10, as TD did not even respond to inquiries, complaints, issues made on ofc.

SO PLEASE TAKE THE TIME THIS WEEKEND TO VOTE FOR WHO YOU BELIEVED BEST REPRESENTED THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS ROLE FOR OUR OFC COMMUNITY.

Please also feel free to reply to thread with any reasons for your vote if you feel comfortable doing so. Poll will close on Monday at Noon.
