Going to throw this out to see what everyone thinks.

I've talk with johnnies, TheBearMay about hosting a OFC-Ohio Fastpitch Connection Awards Banquet in 2009. Would be like a 4 Hours get together being cape off by pass out awards.

They Both like the idea.

Awards Banquet would be held some time after the National and Try out season is over in 2009.

Awards would be giving to OFC members for.

1.) Top Rank Team in the OFC-Poll.
2.) Top Rank Pitcher.
3.) Top Rank Cather.
4.) Top Rank Hitter.
and so on and so on.
5.) Best Tournament of the Year.
6.) Best Coach of the Year. College, High School, Travel Ball, Youth League.

I have other Ideas on Awards as well. But feel free to post your Ideas as well.

The reason I want to get moving on this now. I need to insure that if the member want to do this I can secure a location before March.

God Bless

Would we have to wear a name tag with our OFC screen name?

(hmmm, I might need four or five name tags.;&)

Well, my opinion means nothing since I'm not in Ohio, but here it is anyway. I'd say have a great big get together banquet so people can meet face to face, and give out fun awards based on things that have been posted here. But don't try to single out the "best" when it comes to individual players and teams - because no one sees all the players or all the teams, which means no one can vote on the field of possible nominees with authority.

I agree about the Best now as far as Teams Awards go I think that very easy as OFC has a very good Ranking systems that we could use. I'm just throwing this out and trying to get some idea.

I do want it to be a get together of OFC members. Just in General how it could work.

Say we start around 3 p.m. Have about a hour to just to have coffee and soft drinks and just mingle.

Then at 4 p.m. eat and at 5:30 p.m. Start handed out awards. Not really sure on the times as I would ask the people that wanted to attend to come up with a Date.. And Time.. But 1st I just wanted to see if it even something that the members would enjoying doing.

Everyone Talk about getting the members together some time. Well here the chance to make it happen.

The tough part is going to be setting a location. Even if you choose Central Ohio, you're going to have people that would have to drive 2-3 hours one way to get there. Good luck setting it up. I would probably attend.

I'd say the team polls are as fair as you're going to get, especially if more coaches participate, and they probably are pretty good at picking the top ten, but to definitively say who is #1 over #2 or #3? I don't know, especially when teams play a lot out of state.

An OFC get together seems to have merit but I'd recommend staying away from awards. Even when you try to determine the MVP of a single game or an event, that is hard to do and usually causes hard feelings.

Maybe need to take a look at having something like college coaches come in and talk about what they look for in recruiting and how a player can sell herself.

Maybe even have some OHSSA rep come in and talk about their philosophy.

Maybe have some unifom/equipment vendors stop by and set up a booth.

Perhaps each association would set up am information booth to answer questions.

I'm sure others out there have other ideas on what would be good and likewise, what should be avoided.

I think staying away from rewards would be better. But having some type of get together would be great. Perhaps some fun-gag rewards ! Maybe I could spend more than 5 min's talking to Rickey when we ran into each other getting fuel. Never know where you are going to run into a OFC member. There are some others that would be fun to talk softball with.

The idea of a get together sounds good to me but the problem that I see with awards is that it becomes a popularity award as much as anything. There is no way that most coaches get to see every team or player in an age group over the course of the season. There were two or three teams that we played last year that were as good or better then any of the teams listed in the top 10 and they were nowhere to be found on The Ringers poll. I agree that most of the teams listed were good teams but always there will be those who are under the radar. I can only imagine all of the boasting and chest pounding that would take place throughout the season about each team and everyones daughters. I'm afraid that we would all be nauseous by the time the award show came along. I see so many excellent players throughtout the summer I would hate to have to pick just one or two who were best. Without seeing their entire body of work for the season it's just futile. Just my 2 cents.

I really like Bob's idea of having vendors there. This could be an OFC version of the national Consumer Electronics Show that just finished up in Las Vegas. Vendors could set up around the perimeter and there could be seating with a stage in the middle where Ricky could serve as Master of Ceremonies. Might be a really good opportunity for us to find good deals on equipment and other fun stuff.

And actually, wouldn't it be fun to have this inside on a cold day in February or March when we are all getting really itchy for seasons to start?

Lots of Great Ideas coming. Don't Stop with the ideas.

We try the Vendors thing once before. "The Softball Expo" in Columbus, Ohio at the Ohio State Expo Center. It was not even close to a event that could have been pulled off.

I spent 100's of hours trying to make it work. But in the end results was a Big Zero.

Now I'm not upset that it was a no go for The Softball Expo in fact if I seat around and worry about all my Failures, I would never forge ahead with my ideas that become winners.

I really like the concept of the Banquet as a chance to get together and have some fun.. And I still think Award will some how come into this event if were able to see the Number that we need in order to host a event like these for OFC Members.

I think it would be a great place for (TD) to come and pass out info on Tournaments. And I agree we may be able to bring in some Vendors as well.

Will see how the voting goes.
