2009 OFC Fan Poll - Category: Best Tourney Director of Year

It doesn't take a softball genius (pun intended) to vote... but I voted for Tim Cleaver... as he cares a lot about the kids when he holds a three team tournament and still gave out hoodies to the girls for first place. His tournaments cost less than MOST organizational ran events. Obviously better ran and his prizes are always something different than trophies (how many trophies can one person have). Giving away Uniforms with only four teams !!!! Put together the best umpires in South/Central Ohio. Top notch. Put not only Goshen on the map .. but got away from the problem diamonds in Wilmington with their non-draining issues. Our team played in two of his events in Wilmington. The first in the Fall three years ago where he gave out Tournament T-shirts to every girl on every team free of charge. There was over 20 teams there. Then the uniform tournament he has every year... not to mention about bringing in a helicopter early on a Sunday morning at one of his event so the girls could qualify. Our team won and we went to the World Series because of his effort. His tournament was the last chance to qualify.

I thank him for his efforts for the girls. Some of you may think differently.. but this mind set of teams of "come to my tournament and I'll come to yours" is getting old when org tournaments are getting more costly every year versus these individuals who come out of the blue and throw well run tournaments for a lot less money with no "homering" going on.

I'm from Wilmington and I know his brother and not Tim personally. Comes from a good community based family. I noticed he is putting out less tournaments in 2010 when he should be putting out more events. That is a shame .... he's all about the girls and not how much he can pocket.

I had to make some changes to the Poll, so since I had to edit the Poll I have also remove myself from the Poll. Here the Reason why.

I try to edit the Polls early today when I was on my black berry to Add Tod info on the Poll. Well due to a glitch, bad connection or human error... LOL when I was able to log back on to OFC. I notice I had like 9 votes. One of my blackberry short cut I use is to auto dial Numbers so when I'm making a confrence call. I can hit my short cut key Number #9 and add all the party that will be join the confrence call.

I sent a message to the person running the poll and ask him to call me once I thought there was a problem.

I wanted him to remove me from the Poll right then as I didn't feel it was fair since I'm almost 100% sure that I some how mess up the poll.

He never did call, so once I got home tonight I have removed myself from the Poll.

I feel it the only fair thing to do , I'm just making sure everything on the UP AND UP.

God Bless

I agree with TripleThreat. Quakerman is all about the girls. I have two daughters in college and a 14 yar old coming up through the ranks. For the past 8 years I have been to many events.

Beavercreek has a nice park but TD overbooks his tournaments. We have went to tournaments there for years and always worry about rain as we have seen in the past when rain comes... age groups get cancelled. Lack of employees for rain problems. Three people is not enough. Runs nice tournaments when rain is not a factor.

Expressway Park has a nice park with all the frills... but lack of parking and games being scheduled way too far apart for my liking. One year we had an 8 am, 1 pm and then the 8 pm game. I agree with Quakerman's thoughts on a place that can get the fields up and running after a rain. Expressway would be that place. After seeing Goshen fields at the Lady Lasers event in October... I'd give them a close second. That field crew was amazing and I never saw a bad umpire there all weekend.

Why do Ohio Showcase Tournaments turn away 14u, 16u and 18u teams and have a full slate of 10u and 12u teams ? It's a college showcase for common sake. What the heck is 10u and 12u teams there for ?

People who run one tournament shouldn't be on this list in my opinion. Teams ran events are getting worse each and every year and MORE EXPENSIVE. Everybody thinks they are a TD just like some coaches think they are coaches. We went to one tournament where the Silver bracket winners played the Gold bracket winners in the finals on Sunday. What's that all about? The host team was in the Silver bracket after Saturday pool play that's why. That was about three years ago.

Always loved the Pony event in Marion every year. Nice park but can handle some rain. just not alot of it . Always like Boardman Field of Dreams . Pony and N$A events can ruin parks. Never run very well.

Quakerman should be asked to run some of these organization events. might make them better events and get away from the mental concept of teams worrying about being cheated at certain events in Ohio.

Ricky's events are nice as well. Been to Zanesville many times over the years. Jamboree has always been fun. Hope we go there this year with daughter's 14u team. I'm lobbying for it !!!

My vote is for Todd Harbaugh of the Parma Wildcat Spring Shoot out. It was the best-run tournament we attended last year.

For the people that vote for me, Thanks for the Votes. But I think its only fair that I don't take part in any polls on OFC.

Ricky,

Let me know if there is a simply way for our OFC members to view all members profiles that have Avitars, as not to have to wade through thousands of profiles that don't have Avitars or haven't posted in years.

Let me know, so I can advise in thise coming weeks OFC POll (2009 Best Avitar), if there is a way for all to scan avitars of valid 2009 posters only.

Thanks,

Bob

Triple threat .. please correct something for me. Expressway is Bob Owens .. Bobby to us fellow Td'ers. Nice guy, I like him very much. All about the girls. Him and Betty.

And I'm Cleaver and not Clever. Actually Klever is the Quaker German version of the name.

And thanks for your confidence in me and my umpires. My guys work hard to do the best they can do and be professional. I pay them good (better than most) and they give me their best. The best thing as an umpire you can do.. is to be able to walk off the field after a game and nobody notices you leaving. That's what I look for each and every game. Then I KNOW I done my job.
