Re: Bat rolling, and shaving. Really???

Remember the EASTON Clarity series synergy/stealth? It was made with Visual Composite Technology (VCT). A transparent outer glass layer that allows players to see the bat's inner construction.
Located on the barrel of the bat, the clear layer is a window to the bat's inner composite construction, allowing everyone to easily view the physical integrity of the bat...There have been other bats that would change colors when the inner wall would fracture.
While I do not think bat doctoring is as wide spread of an issue in Fastpitch as it is in Baseball or slowpitch it is good to let the masses know these bats are out there as pointing out the adults that are killing the game with additional safety concerns and cost....
It is bigger then you think. Look up any bat doctoring website and they offer fastpitch models.

My feeling is just because someone offers something does not mean people will purchase it because it there. I can only speak from my experience with the 93,94 age groups and a little bit ofthe 95s. Your experience could be totally different from mine. I would like to think not much has changed with the younger ages today. Mens and Boys baseball without a doubt there are issues I would also also throw in PEDs.

At the younger ages (under 16) I cannot recall one game where I felt a player may be using altered equipment. Now we did play in a lot of top teir events where maybe at some of the smaller events this stuff took place IDK...
Were there ladies hit by balls yes, Some long home runs or hot shots to the infield yes, but I will say I think it was due to anything but this age group had strong players with good coaching/training. After 30 years around the game I have seen and heard how the altered bats sound and ball jump when exiting.
I know a lot of the Ohio coaches and players on the teams we played against and they all were upstanding and cared about the sport and their players. Even the teams from out of state I feel cared the same way about the sport and players.

At 18U is the first time I can say "I thought" a team was using a doctored bat. It was a collection of college players on the Ill force in a tournament in Nashville a few years back. The bat was used by several ladies that blew the cover off the ball the whole tournament. No injuries but alot of long HRs.

If its becoming that wide spread I am sure others can comment on the teams they thought were using doctored bats...So the safety of the girls dosent suffer from politics...

I thought about removing the bat after a girl is injured. After thought, don't know if I agree with it. DD took a hard shot to the shins last year. The girl happened to get ahold of it, that's it. Bat wasn't altered or anything.

One thing I will say OHSAA umpires do quite well is check ALL bats before a contest. If they feel it's been altered, it's not acceptable for game play. Maybe the ASA/NSA/etc umpires should start doing the same thing before contests instead of waiting until the last minute in arriving.

Unfortunately, the bat Doctors are smarter than they think. One of them found a way to shave the Clarity as well, and coat the inside so it never changed color.

There is a man in Cleveland here that works for NASA who played for Pace TPS back in the day. He would test bats all the time. We would go hit at Softball World and he would record tons of data. Then he would open each bat up and examine it. I believe he is a part of a company that ranks bats and balls based on performance and compliance now. You wouldn't believe the things he would find.

As said above. The people altering bats today are too good to see it visually. A shaved bat needs to be put in the tester, or opened up. The every day umpire would never know that an end cap on say and Easton bat, goes on one way. If it is off, it is broke, or altered.

The USSSA slowpitch World Series at Disney, would test every bat that entered the park, and put an approval sticker on it. That worked well until someone got ahold of the stickers. they even went as far as having a tester on field in the stadium. If a ball was hit out, it was tested, if it passed, the HR counted.

Sorry for ranting about all of this, but it is a subject I am strongly against. I hated the fact that a 140lb guy could just about hit the ball out at will with a shaved bat, and I worked hard at my game taking 500+ swings a week on off days, and hit the gym, and was 6'4" 290lbs, but refused to hit a touched up bat.

Have a nephew that still plays competitive. Bats are now Checked in that you will use. place in a tub and they take the tub away until you play. when your done its back in the tub and back to the office. your bat never goes back till your out of the tourney. Pretty sad but thats what its came too!

Why would you sell a product people don't buy? LOL

TheBatDoc.com : Shaved Fastpitch Bats

I'm 100% sure that there was a shaved bat in one of the many teams bags at ASA Nationals. They are the best teams in the country. You wont blink an eye when they are crushing the ball. Little do you know its doctored.

Dont be fooled thinking its not out there. Open your eyes.

For a second there, I thought the Bat Doc was shady, but if you read the disclaimer at the bottom, it reads 'for use in only un-sanctioned games or in homerun derby'. I am certain that this fine citizen does not know about or condone the illegal use of these altered bats... This dude may as well stamp sue me on his forehead...

He knows that the bats are used in sanction play he puts that so he does not get sued.

I have lurked on OFC for quite a long time; never feeling the need to have commenting ability, but this topic changed all that. As noted, there is an '01 coach who offers rolling service, in fact, he's commenting on this thread. Interesting that he hasn't noted that fact in any of his posts.

And the plot thickens on "As 12u turns"....

Could this actually be a double Sam Kinison thread?

Here we go with the Salem witch trial scenario. Without going back and reading the entire thread again, I believe that everyone that has posted here is overwhelmingly against bat altering in any form. What you have done here is cast a shadow over every Member that has posted in this topic, including me. I, for one, do not appreciate that. What you need to do now is either tell us who you are talking about, or at least who you are. If not, it appears as if you have registered for OFC for the sole purpose of pointing the finger in a different direction.

Had it advertised on their FB page until this post popped up on OFC, suddenly that post is gone.
