Brackets please????? An end of the day wrap-up including COMPLETED brackets and field conditions would be nice for those of us who have to now guess and leave early to travel.

Yeah, Whitehall missed the worst of the weather the past two days. Yesterday there was a delay in the early afternoon, and then when play resumed there was light rain for about 45 minutes, but all in all things could have been a lot worse.

Kudos to the grounds crews .... the fields were in great shape for all of our games........ thankfully the big storms just missed the fields.

In my opinion, the only real bummers for the tournament were
1) The 55 minute drop dead pool games.

2) Having two umpires for pool games and only one umpire for bracket play (with the one an only ump drawing social security for the past 5-10 years) (I'm sure I will not be the only person who feels this way)

3) Seeing / hearing / witnessing an unfortunate Thunder Elite pitcher get verbaly assaulted by the score keeper on her team ...... I kept my pie hole shut because I thought it was the girls parent (not that this makes it right) ... but there is not a single 11-13 y/o that deserves that. It was the single most disturbing thing I've seen since following any type of organized sports..... it certainly makes you take a step back an realize why everyone is doing this ...... Winning is the ultimate reward for hard work ...... not when it is at the cost of a player's pride or confidence. This is a team sport ... we win and lose as a team! When it's all said and done, parents and DD's will have stories to tell for their lifetime and we can only hope that our DD's learn something and benefit from the game.

It was great to watch the best of the best 12U teams in Ohio. (and our neighboring states too)...... Good Luck to everyone this season!

I am sometimes offered the privilege and opportunity to be score keeper for one of my kids teams. I NEVER even speak to the girls, let alone yell at them. If something needs to be said it's the coaches job, and as a parent I expect it will be done in a respectful manner. Do we want to teach these kids that they should accept people (future boyfriends, husbands, bosses, etc.) yelling, screaming and berating them? No way.

Lasers 18u Shady park observations:

PROS....

No admission or parking charge.
Plenty of warm up area and shady areas to kick back and chill.
Awesome field of competition.
Umpires
All Lasers personnel went out of their way to accomodate. (thank you tent ladies)
Concessions... 1 dollar 20 oz. pops after paying 2.50 the week before at Berliner for the same thing.
Temp. fences
Met a ton of Ofcer's.
Catcher Taylor Muhic hits a 2 run walk off bomb in intl tie breaker.
S.S. Katelyn Hamilton goes 4-5 with a bomb and at least 3 ESPN plays in front of a college coach that came to watch her. (nice timing)
I dont have 3rd degree sunburn.

CONS.......

18u location had only small and medium shirts tourney shirts available.
16 and 18u's not at same location for college coaches convenience.
Fields werent always dragged and lined.
No temp fences on some dia's. (played all our pool games on 500 ft field)
Not enough balls for games. (had to dig some out of my bag to keep going)
Drop dead games
Umpire not having a coin to flip and keeps my quarter.

We are definitely looking into this situation. We, the coaching staff will never condone that type of behavior from coach, player, parent or fan! If and when we ever hear or see that type of behavior, the appropriate action will be taken immediatly! We try to treat everyone of our girls like family and will defend them like family.

More teams need to be willing to deal with these issues the same way. That type of behavior should NOT be tolerated.

Thanks to the Lasers org this weekend for a great experience & to Lasers Gray for doing such a good job getting the 12U fields ready. Our team came up short, losing 3 games in the last inning. Gives us a good idea of what we need to work on. Enjoyed meeting some new teams & coaches this weekend & talking with many we've met up with before.

My only advice as to what could be done better would have to be having 2 umpires during bracket play. Not that big of a deal though & didn't make a difference in our games.

Other than that, making sure all coaches present themselves with the idea of good sportsmanship toward opposing teams. We had a coach in one of our games yesterday say "safe all day" out loud for everyone to hear, each time the ball went to our 3rd baseman. True or not, I don't believe that was in any way necessary. Overall, this was an excellent experience for our team.

Thanks Lasers!

I would like to say Thanks to the Venom 16u players and coaches for the cupcakes sent to our injured player. Caron broke her wrist in 3 places on a play at home. She will miss 4-6 weeks. One of the Venom coaches was also a medic and he helped splint her wrist and keep her calm. Thanks Venom!

I have to echo how well Lasers Gray took care of the 5 fields at Gahanna West. Every game, the fields were lined and dragged. It was very impressive and very much appreciated.
And to piggy back on some of the umpires that were used that should be no where near a field. I don't know how they could see a close playing when they didn't even attempt to move from behind the plate. All anyone ever wants is for them to be consistent. And a couple I saw didn't even attempt to do it.
Overall, a wonderful expreiece watching some of those incredible 12U teams play.

16U Outlaws very nice weekend with some great wins and some tough losses, but a great weekend none the less. Congratulations on finishing in the top 8 in a very tough tournament.

MV Express very solid team you have there. Good luck this summer.

10u competition was great..actually very impressive for the little ones.. Fields at Gahanna South were taken care of pretty good although batters boxes would have been nice. Sunday at Whitehall was great.

Only big complaint was one umpire on bracket games Saturday. The one umpire did 3-4 games in a row by himself

The plate ump we had for our Sunday morning game vs. The Hawks was outstanding. He was loud and in control the whole time. Kept the game moving and complimented players from both teams when they did well.

The Laser's did a fanatstic job running this event from my perspective. Mr. Beach was all over it at Whitehall. They did what they needed to do to keep games on time & to make sure they didn't have to drop games. No one likes 60 min drop dead games as it changes the dynamic, but that was what was needed b/c no one can control Mother Nature!!!

Thanks Lasers & we look forward to it next yr!!!
